As in the film, a time traveller tries to save the world in the “12 Monkeys” science fiction series. We’ll reveal whether it will continue with season 5.
Fans of time travel cannot ignore “12 Monkeys”. This applies to both the 1995 film with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt and the series of the same name, which premiered in January 2015 on Syfy. The premise of the science fiction hit is similar to that of the film.
The year is 2043. A deadly virus has wiped out much of humanity, so scientist Katarina Jones ( Barbara Sukowa ) does everything possible to prevent just that and James Cole ( Aaron Stanford) from the past. So far, everything still sounds comparable. However, in four seasons, the creators manage to tell their very own story, which is characterized by many mysteries. Will there be a season 5 too?
Why Is 12 Monkeys So Special?
While the men primarily set the tone in the cinematic model, in the reboot and scientist Jones, other interesting and complex female characters characterize the series. Although James Cole remains the main character of “12 Monkeys”, he can take this honour with Dr Cassandra “Cassie” Railly ( Amanda Schull ), who plays an equally integral part in the story.
The mentally ill Jeffrey Goines, made famous by Brad Pitt, is taken on by Emily Hampshire, reimagined as Jennifer Goines. The whole thing is rounded off by antagonist Olivia (Alisen Down). Women are allowed to show all their facets here.
On the one hand, the series thrives on the characters and their relationships with one another, but at the same time knows how to keep the audience on their toes with puzzles and plot twists and surprise them repeatedly. So you quickly watch one episode after the other to know what happens next.
Will “12 Monkeys” Continue In Season 5?
We now have good news and bad news. The bad news is that “12 Monkeys” ended in 2018 after four seasons, and a new season is out of the question. However, the good news is that the creators of the sci-fi hit planned it precisely that way and, therefore, could end the series the way they wanted. There was no abrupt dismissal with open questions or storylines that the audience never gets answers to.
Instead, “12 Monkeys” delivered one of the best series finals in recent years. Anyone who has ever watched a series that could not be completed or at the end of which you scratch your head knows how special a good series finale is. The story of Cassie, Cole and Co. doesn’t need a sequel because it ended exactly as it should.
