The first season of the TV series on The Lord of the Rings is in progress, and immediately Amazon has made it known that a second season is already planned. Let’s find out the details revealed so far.
The Lord of the Rings TV Series: Release Date?
Many of you may be wondering when the Lord of the Rings TV series comes out. The release date is set for September 2, 2022. The filming began in New Zealand, the film’s location, in ‘autumn 2019, as reported by Deadline, potentially making available episodes of Prime Video in 2021, when it falls on the twentieth anniversary of the film debut of The Fellowship.
However, in March 2020, due to the Coronavirus emergency, production was temporarily interrupted. On July 3, Stuff revealed that New Zealand had authorized the production of several films and television products. Among these is also the TV series on The Lord of the Rings, which in the end seems to have returned to production in September. As already revealed, however, the series will not be released before September 2022.
Lord of the Rings TV Series: Plot?
In November 2017, news had come that Amazon was interested in making a TV series on The Lord of the Rings. Initially, however, he was not the only contender. Even HBO and Netflix had come forward. In the end, it was Amazon, which reached an onerous agreement with Warner Bros. Television and Tolkien Estate.
Right from the start, the streaming service expressed its commitment to creating a great TV series, which could be accompanied by grandeur to Game of Thrones. This was President Jeff Bezos’ goal. In this regard, Amazon has expressed its intention to make more seasons, five to be exact, and possibly even a spin-off. The first cycle of episodes required an exorbitant budget, which made the show the most expensive ever. There is talk of $465 million.
In mid-November 2019, Deadline announced that Amazon had already ordered a second season for this ambitious show. The writers would already be working on the new chapter and, on the occasion of the four / five months of hiatus that took over the filming of the first two episodes of the first season, a more extended period than usual, the writers’ room was theoretically able to draw up the first scripts for the season 2. However, we do not have the certainty of this, as we do not know if they have already shot something for the second chapter in conjunction with the first season’s shooting or if they prefer to proceed without interruption.
The Lord of the Rings TV Series: Cast & Characters
The cast of the TV series on The Lord of the Rings has slowly taken shape. Australian actress Markella Kavenagh was the first to land on the series. According to some sources of The Hollywood Reporter, it will be Tyra, of which we only know the name to date.
Always Deadline then made it known that Joseph Mawle, Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones, would have been added to the TV series on The Lord of the Rings. Although there is no official confirmation, it seems that the actor plays Oren, the main villain of the story, at least according to the site. Finally, it appears that the actress Ema Horvath has also entered the cast. Block, then, Amazon announced the rest of the main cast :
