Bridgertons Season 2: Is Lord Featherington Returning?

In the finale of the first season of the Netflix series “Bridgerton,” the Featheringtons and viewers learned of the death of Lord Archibald Featherington (Ben Miller). But why does he have to die?

The lord had gambled away the family fortune due to his gambling addiction. So he sabotaged his daughter Philippa’s (Harriet Cains) relationship because he couldn’t afford her dowry. Lord Featherington made a deal with boxer Will Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe) to get his money back. But when this arrangement was exposed in the season 1 finale, Lord Featherington was murdered by his “partners,” a few bookmakers.

Is Lord Featherington Returning?

Bridgerton will be making a return to Netflix with a second season in the first quarter of 2022. The only thing that will be missing in the new sets of episodes is Rege-Jean Page’s presence as Simon Basset and Ben Miller as Lord Featherington. His bookmakers murdered the latter at the end of Season 1. The actor thinks his character might return in the upcoming season.

During a conversation with Hello!, Miller said,

“It’s possible. Anything is possible, honestly. Even going back to real life. Am I dead? Am I really dead? I mean, they never saw me die! I hold on to straws.”

Though it remains a mystery whether Lord Featherington will be featuring in the second season, on the other hand, it is confident that Bridgertons returns to the small screen with a total of 8 episodes.

This Is How Lord Featherington’s Death Affects Season 2

Due to his death, Lady Portia Featherington (Polly Walker) and her daughters are left destitute. This storyline was not picked up in the Julia Quinn books because Lord Featherington had died three years before the first novel’s events.

The death of Lord Featherington left questions unanswered and opened up some possibilities for Season 2 . Since only men could inherit at that time, it remains to be seen which male relative of Lord Featherington will inherit and how Lady Featherington and her daughters Philippa, Prudence, and Penelope fare.

Although the name of the heir was not disclosed to the public, Portia’s reaction indicated that the heir was unlikely to be kind to them. So the death of the head of the family creates a lot of tension in season 2 of “Bridgerton.”

Since the Featheringtons are now destitute, marrying off the three daughters will be even more difficult. After all, the future husband can not count on a dowry. After the big reveal that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, it remains to be seen whether she will use the influence of her secret identity to benefit her family.
