Is Bungou Stray Dogs coming back with Season 4?

“Bungo Stray Dogs” was entered the HBO Max’s streaming library on July 2020. This series, along with “Hunter X Hunter” and “Fullmetal Alchemist”, solidified the existing selection of anime available for streaming across the services.

Atsushi Nakajima is the main character of “Bungo Stray Dogs” who unexpectedly turns into a white tiger when exposed to moonlight like a strange werewolf. A detective named Osamu Dazai recruited Atsushi from an organization called an armed detective agency. Almost everyone in the agency has the ability to use magic with its unique abilities. Magic is out of the reach of non-magical humans and it is used to solve crimes of a supernatural nature.

Currently, HBO Max has released three seasons of “Bungo Stray Dogs,” including the entire series so far. It has not yet been officially announced if the fourth season is underway, but there are some signs that it may be released.

Release Date for Bungo Stray Dogs 4

There is no official word for Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 production yet, but the TV show is based on a manga series published in the monthly Young Ace magazine (via the Bungo Stray Dogs Wiki). As a result, not only can additional material be adapted to the new volume, but new material will be released continuously every month.

The third season of “Bungo Stray Dogs” ends with a beat based on chapter 53 of the original story. The total number of chapters in “Bungo Stray Dogs” is in the 90s (via Bungo Stray Dogs Wiki). Considering that Season 1 through 3 has an average of 17-18 chapters of material per chapter, there is already enough storyline for Season 4 if the anime adaptation continues at the same speed.

Fand of the Bungo Stray Dogs subreddit have speculated that a new season is unlikely to begin until 2022, but the Season 4 announcements could arrive later this year.

Expected cast for Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4

Yuto Uemura is in charge of voicing Atsushi Nakajima, the main character of the series. Uemura is an experienced anime voice actor who has earned credits in many other popular series (via IMDb). He voices Tamaki Amajiki from  “My Hero Academia”, and in “Haikyu!”, he plays Motoya Komori, a player from Inarizaki and Kageyama’s friend at the Japan Youth Camp.

Mamoru Miyano is the voice of Osamu Dazai. His most notable past credits include the voice of Light Yagami, the protagonist of “Death Note”, and Atsumu Miya, the twin brother of “Haikyu!”.

Miyano is perhaps best known as the voiceof “Persona 5” hero Ryuji Sakamoto (via IMDb) from a video game.

The voice actors of “Bungo Stray Dogs” ended with Kensho Ono as villain Ryunosuke Akugawa, Yoshimasa Hosoya as detective Doppo Kunikida, Hiroshi Kamiya as detective Rango Edogawa and Yu Shimamura as detective Prince Yu Yoshino. Toshiyuki Toyonaga is detective Junichiro Tanizaki and Kisho Taniyama as Chuya Nakahara of the mobster.

Without confirmation of a fourth season of “Bungo Stray Dogs”, it’s impossible to know exactly who will return to reprise their roles. That said, with the focus of the story unfolding on the series, we can expect most, if not all, of the main voice performers to return for a series update.

Sneak peek into the storyline on season 4 of Bungo Stray Dogs

The final five episodes of the third season of Bungo Stray Dogs are an adaptation of an ongoing story section of the series called Cannibalism Arc (via Bungo Stray Dogs Wiki). Perhaps specifically, this part includes Rats in the House of the Dead, a criminal organization led by a man named Fyodor Dostoevsky (like the famous writer, and the other main characters). Dostoevsky continues to play a role in the manga series that crosses the cannibal arc, so fans can look forward to his return as the anime continues to develop.

The next story of “Bungo Stray Dogs” Arc is titled “Decay of Angels Arc” (via Bungo Stray Dogs Wiki). At its core, of course, is another criminal organization known as the Doom of Angels. In fact, Dostoevsky was one of its members. The rest of the group is made up of villains Nikolai Gogol, Bram Stoker, Punch Line and Sigma.

As of April 2021, the Decay of the angels is still ongoing and could be the basis for season 4 of Bungo Stray Dogs as a whole.
