Hunter x Hunter is back with Season 7!

When the second edition of “Hunter x Hunter” animation ended with “Election Arc” in its sixth season in 2014, fans were hoping it would appear soon. After all, manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi continued to gradually produce content for the popular manga of the same name from 2014 to 2018. So why weren’t these stories incorporated into the anime?

But now, over five years later, with no real news, even enthusiastic Reddit “Hunter x Hunter” fans are starting to get frustrated. Many believe that Togashi’s health issues are really likely to cause him to drop the manga, and their favorite anime heroes sadly would never see the end of their story.

At least this is what we thought before. But after receiving two mysterious posts by the lead cast of the anime our opinions have changed. Megumi Han, the voice actor of Gon posted on Instagram, while Mariya Ise, the voice actor of Killua posted on Twitter.

Unfortunately, both of these clues are a bit tricky for non-Japanese speakers, so let’s dive into all you know about “Hunter x Hunter” release date, cast, and plot.

Is the anime coming back with season 7?

The biggest delay in the release of the new “Hunter x Hunter” manga is the lack of core content in the “Hunter x Hunter” manga. The manga has always been slow-paced due to the deteriorating health of the mangaka and has seen several interruptions over the past years.

But what if an anime creator takes a “Game of Thrones” approach and decides to build Season 7 from an outline? This could be the case if fans see Megumi Han and Mariya Ise’s encrypted social media posts as a sign that the next chapter of “Hunter x Hunter” has begun. The Madhouse animation studio, which produced the first six seasons, has shown that content can be delivered quickly.

Between the period 2011 to 2014, the company has produced 148 episodes of the series. Three seasons of the anime premiered in 2012 alone. There is a big gap between the early Japanese versions of the series. And the English version was released, but when the dubbed version was completed, more seasons were given out every year.

So, if work is underway, a new season could start towards the end of 2021, and if it does, fans will be able to see the English version in 2022, but this prediction is just speculative.

Who will voice the characters?

At this point, the fans can understand the expected voice appearances from social media posts by Mariya Ise and Megumi Han. Funimation translated the Japanese version to English so that the rest of the English speaking community can get an idea of what those posts meant.

Megumi Han, the voice of the main character Gon Freecss, posted on Instagram, translated by Funimation as “back to where she started” and is “back with her partner”. Meanwhile, Killua Zoldyck’s voice actor Mariya Ise posted on Twitter, saying she was “recording for the project and happy to meet her partner.” Since we are referring to “Hunter x Hunter”, the two leading actors will return to the voice of the main character.

If Japanese producers are working hard to make the same voice, there is no reason why English dubbing can’t sustain its talent. This means that Erica Mendez will return as Gon Freecss, Christina Barrensela will speak to Killua Zoldyck again, and Michael McConnohie will be able to return to Season 7 narration.

Plot for Hunter x Hunter

As mentioned earlier, the biggest backlog for the next season of “Hunter x Hunter” is the unfinished source material “Hunter x Hunter” manga. Manga is known to be late, but the latest pauses dating back to late 2018 are probably due to Yoshihiro Togashi’s chronic health problems and, according to CBR, his obsession with “Dragon Quest” which is a video game series.

But with “Hunter x Hunter” Season 7, the story of Gon Freecss and Hunter may be over. The comic book reported that in 2018, just before the longest pause in comics, Togashi told Weekly Shonen Jump: “I’m either going to die or finish hxh, whichever happened first.”

But the fans should probably be ready to do it regardless of whether Season 7 is coming or not. Hopefully, that ending comes with some of the most epic anime battles fans have come to expect from the series.
