Manga and anime are closely linked, and in some cases, it can take years for a popular fan manga to be turned into a TV series and movie. That’s not the case with “Jujutsu Kaisen”. Released back in 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen relays a dark thriller fantasy story set in a fictitious world where curses or evil spirits are rampant and people called the sorcerers train to defeat them. The series revolves around a teenager named Itadori Yuji, who ate cursed items to save his friends and carried a curse named Sukuna.
Just one year after the manga was released, the animation was announced, and in October 2020, all 2 episodes of “Jujutsu Kaisen” were aired on MBS and TBS, and later on Crunchyroll. The season finale aired on March 27, 2021. The animation of “Jujutsu Kaisen” was produced by Sunghoo Park, who previously worked on “Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood” and “Garo: God’s Flame”, and was produced by MAPPA.
The first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” was well received and is currently rated 8.7 on IMDb. One of the main elements of the series was praised for its nuances and realistic characters, but especially female characters. “Jujutsu Kaisen” is part of the genre of shonen anime that has always been sexist, but “the story confronts [female characters] and contends for their opinions and positions” (via polygons). Overall, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has established itself in the anime world, and fans of the series are eagerly awaiting news of the second season.
Everything you know about the second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” is listed below.
Release date for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
Currently, the second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” has not been officially announced, but fans have good reason to believe that the second part is on its way. At the end of the first season’s broadcast, the creators announced that the first part of the film “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”, focuses on two characters and would premiere in the near future. A short trailer has been released with a confirmed release date of 24th December 2021. Considering that there is still a lot of material to cover and the manga continues, the second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” would soon follow the film.
Looking at the expected release date, the first belief from the current information is that it won’t be out until winter 2022, or after the film comes out. Even if the production of two projects could be done at the same time, the studio wanted the film to establish a second event in terms of plot. Due to the relatively short time between the announcement and the release in the first season, the release date for the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen could be as early as 2023, or shortly after the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Voice actors of Season 2
Following Season 1, the second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” may have the same cast as the first season. Junya Enoki is tasked with voicing Itadori Yuuji the main character, and Junichi Suwabe with Sukuna, the main villain.
Beside Yuji, there is Megumi who is given voice by Yuma Uchida, a stoic magician who must cooperate with Yuji, and Asami Seto voicing Nobara, a stubborn young woman who is a force of battle. Gojo Satoru, played by Yuichi Nakamura, is the most powerful mage teaching at a Jujutsu high school and training the trio of friends.
As the story of “Jujutsu Kaisen” progresses with new movies and episodes, it would continue to create an ensemble of new characters through curses, magicians, and old men. This gives an opportunity to the anime to get many actors on board.
Possible plot for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
The first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” follows Yuji becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer after his first meeting with Sukuna. Over the course of the first season, the story progresses through various cursed battles in which they search for the fragments of Sukuna’s fingers.
At the same time, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara experience many personal challenges, such as disagreements about their abilities and values and the mental impact of killing the curse on them. The first season ends with Yuji and Novara defeating a curse who are two human brothers of death and curse. Yuji also meets Yuko, one of his old classmates who is crazy about him.
Looking at the events depicted in the manga, it seems reasonable to assume that the second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” will include the “Shibuya Incident” storyline. It is then that a team of sorcerers, led by Yuji, fight a highly organized effort of curses and other evil forces to defeat those who oppose them. The event features many fierce battles that have a dangerous effect on Yuji and others, with significant casualties. For fans of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, it will be a great event that will permanently mark the series and its characters.
