Kakegurui is a Japanese manga series by the mangaka Homura Kawamoto. The illustrations in this series were drawn by Toru Naomura. The manga adaptation is hosted by MAPPA and will air in Japan from July 1 to September 23, 2017. Additionally, the live-action drama adaptation premiered in 2018.
The second season of the animation is called “Kakegurui xx” and got aired from January 8 to March 26, 2019. This Netflix anime is adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name and is one of the most popular anime on the platform. MAPPA handled the animation and production of the series brilliantly. This is everything you need to know about the third season of Kakegurui.
So when is Kakegurui season 3 going to be released?
Without a reliable renewal announcement from the animation studio Mappa or publisher Netflix, which has obtained a license to play the series outside of Japan, there is no way to know whether “Kakeguri” Season 3 will return. Renewal is usually based on popularity and the amount of source material available. It currently has 14 volumes and 82 chapters. There are some differences between manga and animation, but in most cases, animation already covers about 56 episodes.
This means that one more season is almost enough. The first season actually ended with the original episode, and the ending of the second season was also divided (in both cases, a certain conclusion was reached in case the show was not renewed). If they can come back, there must be three seasons of material remaining.
However, it is still unclear how popular the series is. Netflix does not release the number of views to the public (and has recently made some high-profile cancellations). Good reviews and ratings do not necessarily reflect true statistics when it comes to who and how many people are watching. If Mappa announces a renewal today, the program will still have to go through the production process, so it could be launched starting in 2022.
What is the plot setting of the anime?
The story of Kakegurui takes place in Hyakkou Private College. This is an elite upper-class school with the richest children in Japan. However, it is strange that the grade of a school is not determined by academic performance or any other qualities, but by the student’s ability to gamble.
The students of this school are classified according to the amount of financial aid they provide to the Student Union. Students who win the betting committee’s favor will gain popularity, prestige, and connections. The less popular unfortunate people are heavily in debt, become family slaves, and cater to students’ whims and fantasies. “Pets” who cannot pay off their debts are given a “life timetable”, which will determine their future because they must use their lives to pay off their debts.
What to expect from season 3?
The last episode focuses on the auctions designed to buy votes from the president’s candidate and ends with a launch of coins between Rei and Yumeko. If Yumeko loses she will be expelled by the family and, will be Batbam while Yumiko stakes 3 million Yen.
Yumiko seems to emerge victoriously, but she loses a lot of the votes when playing with others. Meanwhile, the Kirari is impressed by Rei and turns her human being again and chooses a new name.
The anime season 3 of this anime will probably pick up these threads. However, with such a steep divergence, such as representing the presence of Rei, it is difficult to know how close they coincide with the events that match the next chapter of the manga.
