“The Vampire Diaries” is one of the absolute best series of the 2000s and made the actors Nina Dobrev (Elena), Ian Somerhalder (Damon) and Paul Wesley (Stefan) absolute superstars. While there are still rumours about the real reason for the series ending, the actors always have only good things to say about the series and their colleagues.
Except for Ian Somerhalder, who recently indirectly revealed what annoyed him about Damon Salvatore’s character in a conversation with series writer Julie Plec.
Damon And His “Hero Complex”
The weekly podcast from Entertainment Weekly was this time about “The Vampire Diaries”. And of course, the actor who played the most popular character in the whole series in the eyes of many fans should not be missing. Somerhalder won the hearts of fans with his role as “Bad Boy” Damon and is still one of the main reasons for many to this day they see the show for the third time. In an interview, Somerhalder revealed what annoyed him about his character, especially in comparison to the opportunities given to a particular colleague.
Because when Chris Wood came on the show and took on the role of Malachi “Kai” Parker, a nasty witcher, Somerhalder saw a character unabashedly be evil. Damon was unfortunately denied that from a specific time in the series, so the actor was jealous of his colleague. The dynamics have changed, Somerhalder recalls in an interview. Damon suddenly had a “hero complex”, while co-star Wood had the opportunity to play a pure villain. “From that moment on, there was a character on the show alongside Stefan in Ripper’sRipper’s time who had the option of not being so serious, who could do terrible things, but with a smile.”
Parker Also Appears In A Spin-Off
Wood was also in the conversation and revealed that he got his inspiration from the serial killer Ted Bundy “if he were hilarious”. His character of the evil witcher was so popular that he also had a role in the “The Vampire Diaries” spin-off “Legacies”. At the time, the actor was more than thrilled to resume his role on another show like E! News revealed. “It was really unique to be that kind of monster because the show takes a very different approach to this Salvatores-based universe,” said the actor.
