Here is the List of Most Common Crimes in the United States

According to figures gathered from the FBI, a property crime was reported roughly every three seconds in the U.S., while a violent crime was reported around every 22 seconds. Those are sobering numbers.

Contrary to what most people think, property crimes are by far the most reported crimes in the United States, not violent crimes; property crimes are nearly ten times more numerous than violent crimes.

More than ten million crimes against property are reported each year, while between one and one and a half million violent crimes are committed.

1. Larceny

Theft via larceny is by far the most common type of criminal offence. Larceny-theft accounts for about 60% of all reported crimes in the United States, with an annual total of more than 7 million thefts.

5. Robbery

Robbery comes up at number five among the top five most prevalent crimes in the United States. Robbery is not simply theft – it is a violent crime, and theft conducted directly on a person or place.

Do you find it surprising that these are the most often committed offences in the United States? Murder and rape have never been included in the top five most common crimes, despite popular belief.
