When Does Season 2 of Wolf Hall Start and What Is Their Cast?

Most Anglophiles will be surprised to learn that Wolf Hall will be returning to television.

It’s true what you’ve read. Returning to television screens after a hiatus of nearly five years is a second season of the period drama centered on Thomas Cromwell. Sometime. No one can say for sure when it will air, who will be involved in producing it, or who will even be in it.

What Happens in Season 2?

But now we know for sure that Season 2 of Wolf Hall is indeed happening. After a while.

BBC Head of Content Charlotte Moore confirmed to the Radio Times that production has begun on a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2015 series.

Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, the first two novels in Hilary Mantel’s Thomas Cromwell trilogy, were originally written as a six-part series but were combined for the television adaptation. In it, we learn how Cromwell went from being the son of a blacksmith to be one of King Henry VIII’s most trusted advisors.

Among his many accomplishments is the fact that he was a major factor at the end of Henry VIII’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation in England. (If you missed any episodes or just want a refresher on what went down in Wolf Hall Season 1, we’ve got you covered with recaps of every episode right here.)

The Mirror and the Light, the last book in the series, will be adapted into a sequel. Taking place after Anne Boleyn’s execution and leading up to Cromwell’s own beheading in 1540, the story will pick up where it left off after Anne’s death.

Season 2 of Wolf Hall

There have been plans for a Wolf Hall sequel for quite some time, but they were put on hold while Mantel wrote her third novel. The Mirror and the Light, which has been delayed for quite some time, will see its long-awaited publication in March of 2020.

When asked by the Radio Times if award-winning actor Mark Rylance would reprise his role as Cromwell, Moore was unable to provide an answer. This is probably because the original show was made so long ago and all of the actors have since moved on to other projects.

But Rylance’s performance was so exceptional that we can only hope the BBC is working behind the scenes to bring him back to wrap up the story. That is, at least, what I keep telling myself.

This is a must-see for fans of historical dramas and period pieces. Many people here are striving to improve their circumstances, but they face formidable obstacles along the way.

A new episode typically lasts between 60 and 65 minutes. On February 8, 2016, the second season of Wolf Hall will be made available to the public. It’s the same thing when we say the season premiere date.

Season 2 of Wolf Hall

Storyline and Characters in Wolf Hall

The plot centers on Cromwell’s rise to power and his efforts to divorce the King from his second wife. Exactly eight years after the events of the last book, on March 5, 2020, The Mirror and the Light will be released.

It is anticipated to focus on the final years of Cromwell’s life, beginning with Anne Boleyn‘s death and ending with his own execution in 1540.

Now, let’s talk about the cast. Mark Rylance plays Thomas Cromwell, Damian Lewis is Henry VIII, Claire Foy is Anne Boleyn, and Bernard Hill is the Duke of Norfolk.
