Jen Psaki’s Husband: How Many Kids Does She Have?

When Jen Psaki was named White House Press Secretary, she quickly became a familiar face in the briefing room. Psaki was raised in Stamford, Connecticut, the eldest of three daughters by her parents, retired real estate developer James R. Psaki and psychologist Eileen Dolan Medley (via Greenwich Time).

Before beginning a career in politics, Psaki worked in campaign communications for Democrats after graduating from Greenwich High School in 1996. She later studied English and sociology at the College of William and Mary.

Throughout her career, she has played key roles in the presidential campaigns of both John Kerry and Barack Obama, finally rising to the position of deputy press secretary under Obama’s presidency.

So it’s no surprise that Joe Biden chose her as his spokeswoman and press secretary because she worked closely with him throughout Barack Obama’s presidency.

However, what about her personal life? It turns out that Psaki has a lot to do with American politics in her personal life as well.

Adolescence and Schooling

Her mother Eileen (née Dolan) Medley and her father Dimitrios “James” R. Psaki, an ex-real estate developer from Greece, were the parents of three children, the oldest of whom was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1978. Since then, her parents have been together. Psaki is of Polish descent as well.

Psaki was a Greenwich High School graduate in 1996. It was in 2000 that she graduated from William & Mary’s School of English and Sociology with an undergraduate degree.

A Career in Its Infancy

Psaki started her career in 2001 by helping Iowa Democrats Tom Harkin(Twitter), and Tom Vilsack gets re-elected to the U.S. Senate and governor, respectively. Psaki then served as John Kerry’s deputy press secretary during the 2004 campaign.

Representative Joseph Crowley entrusted Psaki with overseeing his office’s communications from 2005 to 2006, during which time she also worked as the DCCC’s regional press secretary.

Personal Life

Psaki married Congressman Steve Driehaus’ chief of staff, Greg Mecher, on May 8, 2010. Mecher later served as Joe Kennedy’s chief of staff. In 2006, the pair met at a DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) fundraiser. They are the parents of two kids.

 What Is Greg Mecher’s Profession?

Gregory Mecher, the husband of White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, has also had a long and distinguished political career.

As an undergraduate studying communication and television production, Mecher initially dabbled in politics while still in school in 1999. “Student representative to the Board of Regents” was a position he held throughout his time at Northern Kentucky University.

Interning with Congressman Ken Lucas, who represented Kentucky’s 4th congressional district from 1999 to 2005, was made possible thanks to a Board of Regents classmate. During this internship, Mecher realized he had a calling in politics.

Mecher was Steve Driehaus’s chief of staff when he and Psaki married. Mecher formerly served as Joe Kennedy III’s Chief of Staff in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts.

A Year After Greg Mecher and Jen Psaki Wedding

At the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Psaki and Mecher first became acquainted in 2006, when they began working together. At the time, Mecher was the deputy finance director, while Psaki was working in the communications department.

The first time the two of them spoke was on the phone. Mecher was given the erroneous instructions to a work function by Psaki, who, in her words, had “no sense of direction.” As a result of the blunder, Psaki feared her coworkers would be upset with her. Mecher, on the other hand, asserts that he fell in love with her at first sight and promptly forgot about everything else.

At last, Mecher had the nerve to ask her out for dinner in September 2006. They clicked right away and have been together ever since. When Psaki took a job with Obama’s presidential campaign just six months later, their friendship was put the strain, and they parted ways as a result.

Psaki and Mecher had a rough long-distance relationship for the next year and a half. Their late-night phone talks were frequently interrupted by Psaki’s hectic schedule. This, of course, had a negative impact on their relationship.

Mecher recalls one instance in which they were separated for 36 days: I even did the math. And it lasted a long time, too. On top of all that, it was difficult. Despite this, neither one of them ever contemplated ending their relationship.

After the election in 2008, Psaki and Mecher got married and moved in together. Mecher came forth with a proposal just a few short months later. The couple exchanged vows on a Maryland farm in May of 2010 and became legally married.

How Many Kids Does She Have?

Even working moms were affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, which significantly impacted employment.

Since the epidemic reduced the percentage of women in the workforce to 57%, Psaki and the Biden Administration felt Americans needed to see mothers in leadership capacities who are also working. There are two children in the family: a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.

Psaki acknowledges the importance of her role as a working mother in the public eye. She said, “I would think one of the biggest things we can all make is telling other women who may be at the point where they haven’t yet had kids, or they’re contemplating it, that this is doable.”

The fact that we are making it feel like you don’t have to make a choice is not because you’re talking about it every day—although it is absolutely part of the conversation.

If you’re looking for someone who can do it all, go no farther than Psaki and her spouse. This is a super-successful couple!

Psaki’s Wife, Jen Psaki, Had This to Say About Him

Psaki has always been on Mecher’s side during their 11 years of marriage. She often praised him.

Psaki put it in an interview, “He is so at ease with who he is. It doesn’t matter whether he’s in a room full of 5-year-olds or a room full of billionaires; he’ll be at ease and be able to hold a discussion wherever he is.

“Except when it comes to the Bengals, he’s a diehard Bengals and Reds supporter,” she continued.

The First Meeting of Gregory Mecher & Jen Psaki

Mecher and Psaki initially met in 2006 while the two were working for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He served as chief of staff to both Ohio Congressman Steve Driehaus and Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy III before moving on to other positions.

In the course of a phone call, Psaki steered Mecher on the incorrect route to a political event. Instead of being irritated by the incident, he quickly apologized to her because he found her to be a beautiful woman. He married Psaki after four years of dating.

“While I’ve been married to her for a long time, I can state that she has a hard time following directions. I had no idea who this individual was by the time I arrived.”
