Dan + Shay was almost called Ragtop Red. Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay is showing off his new body on Instagram, revealing that he lost around 50 pounds.
On Thursday, Mooney posted a message to his fans on his Instagram story, thanking them for all of the positive comments they’ve been leaving on his recent posts. Many fans and fellow country music artists have congratulated him on his achievement and new healthy lifestyle.
He went on to explain to his fans his recent journey in not only attempting to lose weight but also making changes to his lifestyle in order to live a healthier life overall.
“It’s been a little over 5 months, I believe, and I’m down almost 50 pounds,” Mooney wrote on Instagram. “For those who are curious, I am eating clean, not drinking alcohol, and walking 7 miles per day. As well as some weights. That’s all!”
Along with the story post, Mooney shared a photo of himself and his oldest son Asher on his feed, captioned “life gets better every day.” Morgan Wallen, Chris Lane, and Tyler Rich, among others, praised and congratulated him on his accomplishments.

Lane commented with a fire emoji, Wallen with “man done got skinny on em!!!” and Rich with “looking, lean brother!” Hudson Moore, a singer, also commented, saying, “lookin lean and mean my dude,” with a fire emoji. Mooney’s sister also chimed in, writing, “look at those handsome boys,” with a heart emoji.
Mooney claimed in an Instagram story post that since changing his lifestyle, he is feeling better in all aspects of his life, not just physically. He then urged all of his followers who want to make a change in their lives to see his post as a sign that it is time to take the first step.
“I completely changed my lifestyle, and I’ve never felt better physically, mentally, or spiritually,” he added. “If you’re looking for a clue… I adore you all.”
The celebration of his new healthier lifestyle comes only a few months after he and his wife Hannah Billingsley announced that they are expecting their third child together. They broke the news to their fans via an Instagram video of them telling their children. Billingsley and Mooney ask their sons in the video if they want a baby brother or a baby sister, and they say they want a sister.
Mooney and Billingsley then revealed that the two boys would be getting a baby brother, which disappointed the two boys. The new baby boy will join Asher, who is five years old, and Ames Alexander, who is two and a half years old.
