DC Reportedly Wants to Make a Sequel to Man of Steel Starring Henry Cavill

Regarding the Snyder Cut, fans have been clamoring for Henry Cavill to resume his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe. They appear to be getting their desire.

THR alleges that WB Discover has an “intense yearning” to see Cavill don the red cape once more in a long piece that also reveals James Gunn is covertly working on another DC film. Indeed, a movie that would “basically be Man of Steel 2” is allegedly looking for writers.

The project is one of several involving Superman mentioned in the report, which also mentions a possible Flash sequel and Matt Reeves’ intentions for spin-offs based on Batman’s rogue’s gallery. It also emphasizes WB Discovery’s tumultuous condition as it tries to find its own Kevin Feige for the DCEU.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is among those rumored to be attempting to determine Superman’s destiny in the middle of what has been described as a power vacuum at DC following the upcoming retirement of DC president Walter Hamada. According to THR, Johnson is desperate to develop a “Black Adam vs. Superman” film starring Cavill.

When asked if Black Adam will battle Superman, Johnson replied, “Absolutely. That is the whole idea of this.” “A new era in the DC world is about to begin.”

While Black Adam does not hit theatres until the end of this week, Johnson has already revealed the film’s post-credits stinger, which stars Cavill. According to THR, Hamada initially declined the cameo, only for Johnson to approach Warner Bros Pictures bosses Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy and convince them to do it anyway. The sequence was shot in the middle of September.

Notably, Johnson was booed during San Diego Comic-Con in July when he appeared to cast doubt on Cavill’s return to the role, responding to a question about whether Black Adam could beat Superman in a fight by saying, “I guess it probably all depends on who is playing Superman; I’m just going to say that. I’ll leave it at that.”

For his part, Hamada has advocated for Ta-Nehisi Coates’ non-DCEU fiction about a Black Superman, which is still planned to be produced by JJ Abrams.

Cavill’s Superman last appeared in Justice League, which received widespread criticism before being resurrected by the so-called Snyder Cut. Even back in 2017, the character’s future in the DCEU was considered to be in jeopardy, but it appears Superman’s fortunes have changed.

Who fills the void left by Hamada will ultimately determine how WB Discovery proceeds. According to THR, De Luca was in charge of approving Joker 2 and may have a more permanent presence in the DC universe.

Meanwhile, Black Adam will be released on October 21.
