Victor Steeman, a 22 Year Old Dutch Motorcyclist, Died After Being Injured in a Race Crash!

Victor Steeman died a few days after collapsing during his WorldSSP300 event. The FIM family, Dorna Group, and the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve extend our heartfelt sympathies to Steeman’s family, friends, team, and loved ones.

With great regret, we mourn the death of rider Victor Steeman following a serious collision in Race 1 of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve during the Pirelli Portuguese Round (MTM Kawasaki).

Steeman was engaged in a multi-rider incident at Turn 14, which resulted in the race being red-flagged. Medical workers and vehicles came quickly, and the rider was treated trackside and at the circuit medical center before being flown to Faro Hospital by helicopter.

Steeman died as a result of his injuries, despite the best efforts of the circuit’s medical team, marshals, and hospital staff.

The notification also featured a statement from Steeman’s family, who disclosed that through organ donation, he was able to rescue a number of individuals in his death.

“Something you have always feared as a parent of a motorcycle racer has now occurred,” the family said in a statement.

“Our Victor was unable to win the final race. Despite the excruciating loss and grief, we are incredibly glad to share with you that our hero was able to rescue 5 other people by donating his organs after his death. We’d want to thank everyone for how you’ve been living with us over the last few days. We will miss Victor terribly.”

Steeman was on the verge of winning the WorldSSP300 championship after four victories, five podiums, and three pole positions this season. In addition, he just became the rider with the most pole positions in the WorldSSP300 class, and he etched his name in the history books at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) also revealed the awful news on Tuesday via its official Twitter account, paying tribute to Steeman and expressing sympathies to his family.

“We’re terribly saddened to report the death of WorldSSP300 racer Victor Steeman,” said the message. “The WorldSBK family extends our heartfelt condolences to his family, team, and loved ones. A tremendous personality is a ferocious racer and a legacy that will live on in our paddock for the rest of the time. Victor, ride in peace.”

Steeman’s death comes only days after British racer Chrissy Rouse died on Oct. 6 at the age of 26 following a “significant” brain injury sustained in an accident earlier this month during a British Superbike Championship race, according to the BBC.
