Emily VanCamp Exits The Resident After 4 Seasons

Another Chastain Park Memorial Hospital employee is leaving, and this is not just anyone but Emily VanCamp. The actress is about to leave the series The Resident after four seasons as a protagonist. Emily has decided to abandon the Fox medical drama before the fifth season, as confirmed by TVLine.

At the moment, the circumstances that have decreed the choice of Emily VanCamp to conclude her journey with The Resident are unknown. It’s unclear if her decision is tied to the announcement she made a few days ago when she revealed that she and her husband Josh Bowman recently welcomed a daughter, Iris.

Emily VanCamp made her debut as nurse Nic Nevin in the premiere of The Resident series in January 2018. Her character embarked on a romance with Matt Czuchry’s Conrad Hawkins. The couple then got married in the fourth season’s first episode, and Nic gave birth to her first child in the season finale.

Emily VanCamp Says Goodbye To The Resident

The new teaser for the fifth season of The Resident, which will debut in the US on Tuesday, September 21, also hinted at a possible tragedy for Conrad and Nic. The man is alone in the videos, and police officers arrive at his door, while Nic never appears.

After the season 4 finale, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff teased a significant and potentially game-changing development for season 5, though it’s unclear if he was referring to Emily VanCamp’s farewell.

“When the audience will watch the first episode of Season 5, they will be happier, but when it ends, they will be in a lot of shock due to some changes,” Elkoff suggested at the time.

A Fox representative declined to comment that Emily VanCamp is leaving The Resident. A source, however, claims that the actress will still appear this season “in some shape or form”. Therefore, it is unclear if Nic will die in The Resident 5, although everything suggests an imminent tragedy.

Emily VanCamp is now the third cast member of The Resident to leave the series in recent months. Previously, Shaunette Renee Wilson, who played surgeon Mina Okafor, left the medical drama in the middle of season four. While, Morris Chestnut, aka Barrett Cain, has not left the show but will be seen less in Season 5 due to his involvement in Our Kind of People.
