In the meantime, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a Russian Doll third season, which hasn’t been officially announced yet.
Natasha Lyonne, one of the stars and co-creators of the show, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019: “I know there has to be room for something beyond my limited imagination right now to know if that is still where the series starts, where it goes, and where it ends.”
“Possibly, there are only two of them. It’s possible that we’re experiencing the passing of the year. Those three appear to be the most likely candidates at this point.”
We’ve compiled everything Lyonne has said about possible future Netflix installments, as well as our own theories and predictions for what Nadia and company could be in for if they ever return to the small screen.
What do we know so far about Russian Doll season 3?
What Will Happen in the Third Season of Russian Doll?
A time loop rhapsody in Russian Doll’s first season was followed by time travel and a healthy dose of multiverse action in Season 2.

- Imposters Season 3: Do Imposters Have a Third Season? Are Netflix’s Plans for Imposters Season 3 Still on Track, or Has the Streaming Service Decided to Cancel the Third Season?
Season 3’s time-bending tropes are still a mystery, but we have a sneaking suspicion that whatever happens to Nadia and Alan will prompt them to delve deeper into their pasts and their relationships with one another.
The Cast of Russian Season 3
Natasha Lyonne, who co-created, wrote, and occasionally directed Russian Doll, will definitely be returning. Charlie Barnett would also return to the show as Alan, the show’s yin to Nadia’s yang. Both Maxine and Lizzy are important to the show, so they should be back in some capacity at the very least.
Until then, it’s impossible to tell. Season 2 ended with the death of Ruth, which means that unless Russian Doll plays with time even more (which it absolutely could!), this could be the final season for that character.
Chlo Sevigny, who played Nadia’s late mother in Season 2, may not appear as frequently as she did in that season, but we could see her again in flashbacks. Sharlto Copley, the actor who plays Chez in the second season of Game of Thrones, is so much fun to watch that we feel the need to call him out and push for more of him in the future.

The Plot of Russian Season 3
Russian Doll is both a joy and a pain because the past two seasons can stand on their own, but when put together they form a larger picture.
If the season two finale came to an end, we can assume that season three will feature Nadia traveling back in time once more.
However, the future is uncertain, just like Nadia’s. Then again, we can’t wait to see where it goes!
The first season was centered around a time loop in which Nadia and Alan’s deaths kept recurring until they figured out how to break it.
During the second season, Nadia became both her mother and her grandmother at various points in time.
Considering this, we can speculate that season three will take place in the future, which was hinted at in season two but never developed into the main plot.
The Premiere Date for Russian Doll’s Third Season
It’s impossible to predict when Russian Doll season 3 will arrive on Netflix because it’s expected to be released in 2023 or 2024, according to internal sources. It’s possible that we won’t see Nadia and Alan for another three years after season 1 premieres in February 2019 and season 2 premieres in April 2022.
