His brother Jess was also a drummer in the band “Camp Kill Yourself.” Bam grew up in a family of actors, including his father and mother, both of whom were reality TV stars. His grandfather named him “Bam Bam” when he was three years old, after his habit of running into walls.
His classmates later shortened his name to just Bam. Bam began skating in his early teens, idolising skaters such as Boulala, Penny, Maldonado, Keri Getz, Saari, Hoofbite, and others. Moving on, he first attended West Chester East High School before dropping out in the 11th grade. He has since received his GED.
His older brother Jess played the drums, and later Bam learned to play the keyboard, and they began making skating, stunt, and sketch videos under the band name CKY. Bam’s other friends, including his best friend Ryan Dunn, Chris Raab, Brandon DiCamillo, and others, would join the group.
The DVD series went on to sell over 400k copies. This was initially done through the skate community and then by word of mouth. Bam had lost interest in school after discovering his passion for filmmaking and entertainment.
The success of CKY piqued the interest of Jeff Tremaine, the editor of the skateboarding magazine Big Brother at the time. This man originally brought the idea of Jackass to MTV. In 2000 they got to work making a show and Bam was given a lead role alongside other pranksters including Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville.
Jackass only lasted two seasons, but it established the boys as household names to a whole new generation. The boys had risen to the top of show business, earning millions of dollars while partying like rock stars.
Furthermore, Bam appeared in the Jackass franchise projects listed below. These films include Jackass: The Movie in 2002, Jackass Number Two in 2006, Jackass 3D in 2010, and Jackass 3D in 2010.
Bam Margera decided to begin his professional skateboarding career in 1997 and 1998 when he first had the opportunity to sign a sponsorship deal with Toy Machine Skateboards. In 2001, he joined the Team Element, the Element Skateboards demonstration crew. He left the team later that year.
Bam’s talent attracted the attention of numerous brands, including Speed Metal Bearings, Adio Footwear, Electric Sunglasses, Volcom, Landspeed Wheels, Destroyer Trucks, Fairman’s Skateshop, and Destructo Trucks. When he retired from skateboarding in 2017, all of the brands abandoned him.
Bam was frequently filmed intoxicated in Jackass behind-the-scenes videos and on his MTV show Viva La Bam. He was arrested in July 2009 after a four-day alcohol binge. This was the first time he entered Rehab but left the programme after 4 days.
One of the most devastating blows to Bam’s sobriety hopes was the death of his friend Ryan Dunn in 2011. Ryan, a lifelong collaborator and drinking buddy, was killed in a drunk driving accident. The loss was especially hard on Bam, who admitted that he began drinking not for fun but to forget.
He stated that he lost control of his drinking the following year. This year, he was also forced to stop skateboarding due to a bone Spur. Bam re-entered Rehan in 2015 but did not complete the programme. His next appearance was on VH1’s Family Therapy with DR. Jenn.
Following this, he enjoyed 7 months of sobriety, resumed skating, and reconciled with his family during a trip to Spain. He also has a Sirius XM radio show. Bam turned his famous Viva La Bam home into an Air BnB where fans could stay.
After receiving a DUI, he entered rehab for the third time in 2018. Then, in 2019, he returned for the fourth time but left again too soon. He also revealed that his personal life is in disarray, with him and his wife at odds.
Bam Margera proposed to longtime girlfriend Jennifer Rivell in 2003, but the relationship did not last, and the two divorced in 2005. Melissa Rothstein, who appeared in some of his shows, was his next lady love. In 2012, the couple decided to divorce.
Bam Margera then remarried to another woman, Nicole Boyd, in 2013, and the couple welcomed a son named Phoenix Wolf on December 23, 2017.
