The Kominsky Method is an American comedy-drama streaming TV show that started on November 16, 2018, and is made by Chuck Lorre. It stars Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Sarah Baker, Nancy Travis, Paul Reiser, and Kathleen Turner.
It’s about a made-up old acting coach who had a short period of success as an actor many years ago. On October 25, 2019, the second season started, and on May 28, 2021, the third and final season, which didn’t have Arkin, started.
The Plot of The Kominsky Method
Michael Douglas plays an actor who was famous a long time ago and is now a teacher at a studio called “The Kominsky Method” named after himself. His best friend and agent loses his wife to cancer, which makes them both question their lives as they try to make decisions and deal with old and new relationships.

As Kominsky teaches a class for actors, he meets a woman he really likes but doesn’t know how to get together with. While this is going on, his agent has to deal with the pain of his wife’s death and his daughter’s drug use.
Throughout the series, it becomes clear that their old age comes with problems that neither of them knows how to solve. As they keep riding this train of life, which is getting closer and closer to the end, they learn to deal with pain, character growth, and setbacks.

Production of The Kominsky Method
On August 14, 2017, it was said that Netflix was putting the finishing touches on a series order for the first season with ten episodes. Chuck Lorre, Al Higgins, and David Javerbaum were going to write the scripts for the show.
During the Television Critics Association’s annual summer press tour on July 29, 2018, it was announced that the show would start on November 16, 2018. Netflix renewed the show on July 2, 2020, for a third and last season, which came out on May 28, 2021.
Along with the news that the show would be made into a series, it was confirmed that Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin would play Sandy Kominsky and Norman, respectively.
In January 2018, it was announced that Nancy Travis and Sarah Baker had been cast as the main characters and that Susan Sullivan, Emily Osment, Graham Rogers, Ashleigh LaThrop, Jenna Lyng Adams, Melissa Tang, Casey Brown, and Lisa Edelstein would have recurring roles.

Jane Seymour, Jacqueline Bisset, and Paul Reiser were all cast in recurring roles for season two on February 7, 2019. Bisset was going to play Sandy’s ex-wife, but Kathleen Turner was chosen for the part instead. Alan Arkin won’t be back for the show’s last season, it was announced on September 23, 2020.
Reception of The Kominsky Method
When it first came out, the series got good reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, which collects reviews, the first season has an average score of 6.6/10, which means that 80% of people liked it.
The website’s critical consensus says, “Full of humor and heart, The Kominsky Method paints a surprisingly touching – if a little paint-by-numbers – portrait of life and aging, lifted by two top-notch performances by acting legends Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas.” Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, gave the first season a score of 68 out of 100, which means that most critics liked it.
Home media of The Kominsky Method
Region 1 stores started selling the first season on November 19, 2019, and the Warner Archive Collection is the only place to get the Blu-ray version.
