The Lion King Prequel Found Its Two Protagonists

After the immense success of 2019’s ‘The Lion King’ live-action, Disney decided to gree light a new prequel story for the franchise, and now the prequel has signed its two protagonists.

The live-action adaptation of the 1995 animated classic grossed more than $1.6 Billion at the global box office. With such a successful number, the movie got into the list of Top 10 most successful films in history apart from its critical and commercial appreciation.

Similarly, the new Lion King prequel will potentially discover more about the Mufasa and Simba saga. Since any material about the back story has never been seen, the new fiction will be revolving around the mythology of Mufasa and his troubled relationship with his brother Scar.

As reported by Deadline, it has been now revealed who will be the stars in the prequel. According to the tabloid, Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will be voicing the iconic characters under the direction of Barry Jenkins.

Pierre, better known for ‘The Underground Railroad,’ will play Mufasa, while Harrison Jr, known for ‘Waves,’ will play Scar, also known as Taka.

Disney has not yet revealed the complete cast of the lion king prequel, but the film will likely be a star-studded venture. Previously, the cast featured actors like Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, and James Earl Jones as Mufasa.

Jenkins Spills Beans On The Plot

Though not much has been known about the prequel, the director in charge of the project has claimed that the prequel will have a lot of sensitivity.

“By helping my sister raise two young children during the 1990s, I grew up with these characters,” said Jenkins during a conversation in 2020.

“To have the opportunity to work with Disney to expand this magnificent story of friendship, love, and legacy, while expanding my work on the lives and souls of the people of the African diaspora, is a dream come true,” adds the director.

When Will The Prequel Release?

The Lion King prequel is currently in production, new details about the project are being revealed with each passing day, but a release date for the same is yet to be dropped in the public domain. We hope that an official announcement regarding the release date will hit the internet soon.
