What is the Story of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie?
“Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie” is also a slice-of-life show, which means that most chapters or episodes don’t have a strong, linear plot. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing fun to do or interesting to say. Overall, “Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie” is about how two kids who love each other and want the best for each other struggle in their small world every day.
Most of the time, the short stories that make up the series also make fun of what’s going on. Even though Izumi’s problems aren’t always big, they always seem to get in the way of what he wants to do.
Whether it’s forgetting to wear gloves when he takes his girlfriend out on a cold Christmas night (Chapter 7) or getting too scared when he and Shikimori watch a scary movie (Chapter 4), Izumi almost always ends up looking less cool and manly in front of his girlfriend than he wants to.
But he can’t help but love her more when she goes into “cool” mode right away and solves the problem, no matter how small, with a single gesture.
So, “Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie” is a great way to get people to say “awww” when they see something that is just too good. This is funny, since Shikimori’s character is based on the fact that being cute is only one part of who she is. Even so, the cuteness of the show might be the best reason to watch it at all.
In January 2021, Doga Kobo announced on the official Twitter account for the Magazine Pocket service that the series would be turned into an anime TV show. The series was directed by Ryota Itoh, and Shhei Yamanaka was his assistant.
Yoshimi Narita was in charge of the scripts, Ai Kikuchi designed the characters, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi made the music. It aired on ABC and TV Asahi’s ANiMaZiNG!!! block from April 10 to July 10, 2022.
“Honey Jet Coaster” by Nasuo is the opening theme, and “Route BLUE” by Yuki Nakashima is the ending theme. Outside of Asia, the show was licenced to Crunchyroll. In South and Southeast Asia, Muse Communication bought the rights to the series.
On April 11, 2022, Crunchyroll announced that the series would get an English dub, which started on April 23.
