After six seasons of following the life of the Bordelon family on OWN’s Queen Sugar, you’re bound to feel a connection to them. We’re saying our final goodbyes to the fictional Louisiana siblings who met in the first season to manage their family’s farm and have seen a lot since then.
Prior to the season six finale in November 2021, OWN confirmed that Queen Sugar would return for its seventh and final season in 2022.
Too far, it has received high appreciation for its well-developed characters and topical themes such as racism and the Covid-19 pandemic, which it has addressed from its debut (and their intersection).
As with Queen Sugar’s all-female cast of filmmakers, the show helped launch the careers of many of its directors.
Ava DuVernay, the show’s creator, issued a statement expressing her thoughts on the series conclusion. Everything has a place and a time.
OWN and Warner Bros. Television, along with my producing partner Paul Garnes and I, we’ve enjoyed seven great seasons making Queen Sugar with an incredible cast and crew,” DuVernay remarked.
“To create and produce seven seasons of a current drama about a Black family is a daring step in our profession and an achievement that well exceeds my wildest aspirations.”
My belief is that the story, which began with Oprah’s suggestion, is ready for its sunset as a completely realized dream has been confirmed. For this and many more reasons, working with Queen Sugar has been a highlight of my professional life, for which I am eternally grateful.
Season 7 of Queen Sugar: Who’s in?
So far, all of the cast members are expected to return for the seventh and final season. Nova Bordelon will most likely be played by Rutina Wesley; Charlotte Bordelon by Dawn Lyen; Ralph Bordelon by Kofi Siriboe; and Micah West by Nicholas Ashe. Timon Kyle plays David West, while Bianca Lawson plays Darla.
Violet Bordelon is played by Tina Lifford, and Hollywood by Omar Dorsey. We expect Ralph Angel to return for the seventh season after Darla gave birth to a daughter in the sixth season. The arrival of his daughter is going to radically alter his life.
Ava Duvernay Already Knows the Outcome
Ava DuVernay, the show’s creator, is currently preoccupied with the conclusion of Queen Sugar. When it comes to the end, I have no idea how to get there; I simply know what it will be.
So, as we begin writing more, the adventure will be taking steps to get to the finish of the voyage,” DuVernay told Deadline. “I’m enthusiastic about where it’s all headed.”
I’m crossing my fingers that the story comes to a happy conclusion. According to TV Line, Lifford reflected on the season six conclusion and what it means for season seven, saying, “Black joy looks nice on this family.”
Finally, the Bordelon siblings had a baby: Darla gave birth to Ralph Angel; Davis and Charley agreed to get back together and go to LA, and Nova and Dominic formed a relationship. There can’t and won’t always be good times, but this is a step in the right direction.”

Trying to get up to speed? Seasons one through five can be seen on Hulu right now. However, the season six DVD is currently available for purchase.
What Occurred in the Previous Seasons of Queen Sugar?
The Queen Sugar creator, Ava DuVernay(Instagram, Twitter), needs to go back and redo the series’ last scene. Earlier this month, she told Deadline that she had no idea how this story would conclude; she only knew that it would happen.
With the story’s progress, she says she is looking forward to the end of the tough yet fascinating trip in no time. Although the series has had its share of ups and downs thus far, we expect it to conclude happily.
Ralph and Dana welcomed a kid, Davis and Charley remarried, and Nova and Dominic reconciled towards the end of season six. Ava added that it was a decent start, given that we can’t constantly expect to hear just nice things.
The Release Date for Season 7
After a two-hour season finale on April 20, 2021, the fifth season premiered on February 16, 2021.
Episode 1 of Queen Sugar’s sixth and last season debuted on September 7, 2021.
The return of Queen Sugar is planned for 2022, but no specific date has been set. Production is expected to mid in 2022 or late 2022, according to internal sources, which claim that work in Queen Sugar’s writing room has already begun on the screenplays.
