Prepare yourself for some difficult news if you were hoping for a third installment of the stunningly gorgeous and intensely captivating sci-fi series Altered Carbon. The Netflix original series, which is based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 novel of the same name, won’t be getting a new season since the streaming giant has decided it’s no longer worth producing. This makes the possibility of an Altered Carbon season 3 extremely remote.
Yes, admirers, Takeshi Kovacs, and his various guises’ adventures have come to an end with the cancellation of Altered Carbon.
There is still a remote possibility that it will return at some point in the future because it’s not unheard of for a series to acquire a new sleeve in the future, akin to the plot of Altered Carbon. There is precedent for bringing a series back from the dead if there is enough demand, as seen by the recent order for additional episodes of Dexter.
Fans will just have to watch the excellent first two seasons of Altered Carbon, which are still accessible on Netflix, to satisfy their craving for cyberpunk, futuristic fiction, regardless of what the future holds for season 3.

Casting of Altered Carbon Season 3
It’s too early to predict who will be in Altered Carbon season 3 because neither an announcement nor any casting suggestions have been made by the show’s creators. The humanoid AI Edgar Poe (played by Chris Conner) is implied in the show to have backed up a copy of O.G. Kovacs (Byron Mann) before his stack was destroyed. Showrunner Alison Schapker reaffirmed this in a conversation with IGN.
We absolutely adored the scene at the conclusion of season 1 where Kovacs gave Ortega back the sleeve of [Elias] Ryker and all you saw afterwards were these boots leaving the elevator, making you wonder, “I guess Kovacs is coming back, but in what sleeve?” said Schapker. “And in season 2, we wished to fulfil that promise to the audience.
We also really liked the idea of Poe, who has spent the entire season fighting degeneration, having his own noble moment in which he essentially kills himself while simultaneously successfully emulating Kovacs. He has his stack, and Takeshi Kovacs’ consciousness, therefore that is our pledge to the audience. But we’ll have to wait and see in what sleeve.”
Anthony Mackie, who played Kovacs in Altered Carbon season 2, is eagerly anticipated to return for the third season. Sadly, since Mackie took over for Joel Kinnaman after the first season, it’s unlikely that he will return if the authors continue the trend of resleeving each season.
However, Mackie might make an appearance in flashbacks. The actor added that he isn’t quite ready to put up his Altered Carbon boots: “I’m hoping I can bring Kovacs back for another season in the future. Without a doubt, I’m not prepared to stop the series.”
Trailer of Altered Carbon Season 3

Altered Carbon Season 3: Synopsis
There is no summary for Altered Carbon season 3 and nothing related to it will be revealed. The direction that the situation might have taken in the following revision would have been interesting to observe.
The conclusion of Altered Carbon season 2 implied that Quell and Kovacs’ story still had more to be said. The opportunity to learn more about the advanced alien species was left open by the fact that the second part revealed a great deal more about Elder technology and the offspring roost.
However, fans can still enjoy the Altered Carbon Reseleeved animation feature, which was published in March 2020 to fill the hole created by the cancellation of Altered Carbon season 3. The last chapter of Altered Carbon’s plot has just been released, and fans of the first two seasons won’t be dissatisfied. It takes place 253 years before the events of the first season.
