The series is based on Lauren Brooke’s Heartland book series and follows Amy Fleming and her older sister Louise “Lou” Fleming on their Alberta-based family ranch, Heartland, where they live with their grandfather Jack Bartlett, father Tim Fleming, and hired farmhand Ty Borden.
While enduring the ups and downs of life on the ranch, the family grows closer together. The 139th episode of Heartland aired on March 29, 2015, surpassing Street Legal as the longest-running scripted one-hour drama in Canadian television history.
CBC renewed the sitcom for a fifteenth season of ten episodes on June 2, 2021. The show was renewed for a 16th season of 15 episodes on June 1, 2022, and production began on the same day. It premiered in Canada on October 2, 2022.
Cast of Heartland
Despite the fact that the programme is fictional, its sympathetic characters maintain a special place in the audience’s hearts. Consequently, you may have wondered about the cast members’ actual ages and heights contrasted to their on-screen representations.
While some Heartland actors are relatively close in age to their characters, some are far older or younger. One cast member is a whole generation younger than his counterpart on-screen. Continue reading to learn who it is!
- Amber Marshall in the Role of Amy Fleming
Five years separate the actress from her character Amy Fleming, who is currently 29 years old on the show. However, her youthful appearance enables her to appropriately play the part on screen.
Amy and her romantic partner Ty were the main characters of the show for fourteen seasons, until Ty died of complications from a gunshot wound.
Her Libra zodiac sign explains her balanced attitude and inexhaustible patience while dealing with unruly horses and challenging owners.
- Graham Wardle Portraying Ty Borden
Graham studied Film and Production at Capilano University in Vancouver prior to commencing his acting career. Ty is a primary character for the majority of the series and eventually marries Amy and becomes the father of their daughter, Lyndy.
Graham’s decision to quit Heartland in 2019 sparked great discontent amongst supporters. Graham has devoted his time since leaving the show to personal endeavours, such as presenting the Time Has Come Podcast.
- Michelle Morgan in the Role of Lou Fleming
After the death of her mother, Marion, Lou takes over the family business at the beginning of the episode. She eventually becomes a successful businesswoman and Katie’s mother.
In Season 6, she and her husband Peter adopt a small girl named Georgie. In 2007, Michelle was 26 years old, whereas her character was 23 years old. In general, the filmmakers of Heartland appear to cast performers close to the age of their characters, which helps the entire series feel more genuine.
- Shaun Johnston in the role of Jack Bartlett
Jack, the seasoned cowboy, is a Sagittarius, which explains his work ethic and rodeo prowess. Shaun, who is over 20 years younger than his character, spends countless hours rehearsing Jack’s distinctive accent and gait.
- Chris Potter Portraying Tim Fleming
Although Tim’s age is undisclosed in the show, we believe he is roughly the same age as the actor who portrays him. Tim Fleming is the ex-husband of Marion and the father of Amy and Lou on Heartland. Tim made steps to reconnect with his girls after Marion’s untimely death and eventually became a member of the family.
- Gabriel Hogan in the Role of Peter Morris
Peter Morris is Lou Fleming’s ex-husband and the father of Katie and Georgie. Due to Peter’s excessive absence, the couple separated at the end of Season 8 and formalised their divorce in Season 10. Lou and Peter reconcile towards the end of Season 15, despite having seen other people in the interim.
It has been speculated that he was in his early 40s when he first appeared in Heartland, however neither his physical characteristics nor his age are stated.
- Jessica Amlee in the Role of Mallory Wells
Her temperament Mallory Wells is a family friend of the Flemings and spends a great deal of time at the ranch because her parents are frequently gone on business.
In Season 7, the actress stated, “I needed to challenge myself in different ways” as her reason for leaving the show. However, she is confirmed to return for two episodes in Season 10 and also in Season 16. Amlee secured a series regular role on the Netflix original series Greenhouse Academy as Jackie Sanders after leaving Heartland.
- Alisha Newton in the Role of Georgie Fleming Morris
Alisha Newton has not appeared in the previous two seasons of Heartland; her last appearance was in Season 14. Other characters’ brief references to Georgie indicate that she has been away at university, focusing on her education and show jumping.
Since there has been no official indication that Alisha has left the programme permanently, fans continue to anticipate her return.
- Kerry James Portraying Caleb Odell
Caleb has aided Tim in running the rodeo school for the past few seasons. He is married to veterinarian Cassandra, and they have a daughter together.
Because he is taller than Lou but shorter than Jack, Caleb is around the same height as Tim, making him approximately the same size as the actor.
- Jessica Steen as Lisa Stillman
In the series, her character is the glamorous proprietor of Fairfield Stables, a Thoroughbred breeding company. She travels the globe to watch her horses compete and frequently makes risky investments in possible new champions. In the episode, Lisa is married to Jack and spends all of her leisure time at Heartland ranch.
- Kevin McGarry in the Role of Mitch Cutty
Mitch, like Caleb, was originally hired by Jack as a ranch worker in Heartland. Soon after, he develops a romantic relationship with Lou, and the two eventually become engaged in Season 14.
