About this seinen anime
In “Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun,” the romantic metaphors and cliches change. This is a romantic comedy about high school student Sakura Chiyo and secret manga writer Nozaki Umetarou. Adapted from the manga of the same name by Izumi Tsubaki, this anime is a must-see for fans looking for something different from the usual.
Although viewers of the anime are familiar with common romantic metaphors, such as holding an umbrella in the rain or watching fireworks at the end of a festival, the monthly romantic comedy series Nozaki Kun provides unexpected comedy effects for these scenes.
Nozaki-kun from Monthly Girls centers on a quirky group of friends, focused on the satire of comedy, mimicking the typical tropes of romantic anime. Thus, its provocative ignorance of classic basics and character inversion provides the humorous escape that viewers have come to expect from traditional romantic stories. In its non-traditional relationship dynamics, this 12-episode anime offers several odd couples for the audience to enjoy, each demonstrating their non-traditional approach to romantic types.
What is the anime about?
High school student Sakura Chiyo has a crush on her classmate Nozaki Umetaro. When she confessed to him, he mistakenly thought she was a fan and have her his signature. When she said she wanted to be with him, he invited her to his house and asked him to help her paint some pictures. Sakura discovers that Nozaki is actually a famous cartoonist, whose pseudonym is Sakiko Yumeno. She agreed to be his assistant to get closer to him. In the process of making the “Let’s Fall in Love” comic, they met other classmates who helped them and provided inspiration for the story.
So are they finally together?
Currently, the last chapter of the comic is Chapter 122. From the beginning of this chapter, they have not been together. However, we have seen some subtle hints throughout the manga that Nozaki may have developed feelings for Sakura unknowingly. This remains to be explored in the rest of this series, which is still in progress.
If you start reading manga after watching the anime, you should start around Chapter 46. Although some parts of the manga are not included in the animation, so if you have more time, it’s best to read it from the beginning!
