Altered Carbon Season 3 Release Date: Is This Series Got Cancellation From Netflix?

Altered Carbon on Netflix was eagerly anticipated when season one debuted. It was inspired by British author Richard K. Morgan’s book of the same name (there are two other books in the series).

The plot centres on an elite soldier turned private eye (Takeshi Kovacs), who is tasked with looking into the death of a wealthy man. The problem is that people’s awareness can continue to exist in several bodies known as sleeves.

A pulpy, violent, sex and nudity-filled spectacle that was a fan favourite in season one but didn’t quite catch critics’ attention.

Between reviewers and fans, season two had a flip-flop. The innovative plot, the pacing, and the way the movie held back on the gratuitous sex and nudity for tighter storytelling were all praised by the critics.

But the supporters didn’t think so. The main character was also re-sleeved in Season 2, switching from Joel Kinnaman’s (Suicide Squad) body to Anthony Mackie’s (Avengers franchise).

Considering that season two was well-received by critics, will Netflix still renew Altered Carbon for a third season despite the fans’ lack of enthusiasm?

Altered Carbon Season 3: Cast

It’s too early to know who might be cast in Altered Carbon season 3 because no announcement has been made and no casting selections have been made or even hinted at.

However, the humanoid AI Edgar Poe (Chris Conner) is said to have backed up O.G. Kovacs (Byron Mann) before his stack was destroyed. Showrunner Alison Schapker confirmed this in an IGN interview.

You think Kovacs is coming back, but in what sleeve? “We all liked the end of season 1 when Kovacs gives Ortega [Elias] Ryker’s sleeve, and then all you see are these boots walking out of the elevator.” he said “And we wanted to keep that promise in season 2.

We also enjoyed the concept of Poe, who has been fighting degradation all season, having his own noble moment where he sacrifices himself while also copying Kovacs. Here is his stack, Takeshi Kovacs’ consciousness. But which sleeve…”

Anthony Mackie, who played Kovacs in season 2, is expected to return for season 3. Sadly, since Mackie replaced Joel Kinnaman after the first season, it’s unlikely he’ll return. Mackie may occur in flashbacks. Aside from that, he told The Hollywood Reporter he’s not done with Altered Carbon: “I intend to bring Kovacs back next season. I’m not ready to leave the show.”

Altered Carbon Season 3

Season 3 should see Will Yun Lee as “Kovacs Prime,” Chris Conner as Poe, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, Simone Missick as bounty hunter Trepp, and Dina Shihabi as Dig 301.

It’s unclear if Dichen Lachman, who plays Kovacs’ sister Reileen Kawahara, will return. Season 3 of Altered Carbon will likely feature new characters, including a new Takeshi Kovacs.

There’s been a new rumour that Joker and Deadpool 2 actress Zazie Beetz would be cast in Takeshi Kovacs’ upcoming sleeve. Allegedly, the series creator Laeta Kalogridis told The Wrap in 2018: “Changing your gender becomes much easier if you don’t have to do it surgically.

It at least changes. You’re still in an alien body. We’ve just scratched the surface of the possibility of being able to reconstruct the physical self in various ways.”

Fans should wait for confirmation from a reliable news site before proclaiming Beetz an official member of the Altered Carbon season 3 cast.

Altered Carbon Season 3: Expected Plot

Schapker’s guess is as good as anyone else’s when it comes to the Altered Carbon season 3 plot. Early in March 2020, Schapker told The Hollywood Reporter, “I have a few requests, but we’ll have to hold off on making them until we hear from Netflix.

Altered Carbon Season 3

We don’t have a vehicle for transport. Season to season, we’re here. Season 3 is a must for me. However, I’m not sure how much I can contribute to the conversation on this topic. However, we’re all set to go!”

Season 2 of Altered Carbon left many unanswered questions, the most important of which was what happened to brothers Kovacs and Reileen. Everyone wants to see Anthony Mackie again, no matter what character he plays. That’s not impossible if the show’s creators decide to bring the much-loved actor back.

As long as there are people wearing sleeves that look like Anthony Mackie’s, they can write his character into a story. Season 3 is still months away, but one thing we know for sure is that what’s dead doesn’t always stay that way if the stack is fine.

Altered Carbon Season 3: Release Date

The release date of Altered Carbon season 3 has not yet been announced by Netflix. But a few pieces of information are accessible to put together a crude puzzle.

Season one of Altered Carbon debuted on Netflix two years ago today, on February 2. On February 27, 2020, the second season premiered on television. Altered Carbon: Resleeved, an anime spin-off, debuted on March 19, 2020.

Altered Carbon Season 3

The only data factors that can help predict the release date of a Netflix series are its high production costs, and Netflix is notoriously tight-lipped about its audience metrics, so it’s tough to imagine how Netflix thinks about the cost-to-benefit ratio of its products.

The cancellation axe has been swung more liberally recently by Netflix, so Altered Carbon’s second season will need to draw considerable numbers of viewers to earn another renewal. However, the corporation has shown a commitment to the core IP with the publication of the anime spin-off, so perhaps the odds are on the side of Altered Carbon’s father.

Regardless, Netflix’s quiet should not be taken as a sign of trouble. Season 2 wasn’t ordered until five months after the first season premiered, so viewers should hold off on writing obituaries until July.

Season 3 of Altered Carbon is expected to premiere on Netflix in early 2022 if the show is renewed. A two-year wait for a season that you’ll probably binge watch in a weekend or less isn’t enticing, but Altered Carbon season 3 should be well worth the wait when it’s released in 2019. Meanwhile, you can watch the second part again, go back to the first, or explore the spin-off world.

Why Did Netflix Cancel Altered Carbon?

The Society and I Am Not OK With This, are two other Netflix shows that were both cancelled at the same time as Altered Carbon because of their higher budgets and the difficulty of filming amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deadline claims that the show wasn’t cancelled for the same reasons, though. Instead, “the streamer’s standard viewership vs. cost renewal review process” was what led to the decision. Simply put, Altered Carbon wasn’t generating enough revenue for Netflix to afford the cost of production.
