Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a forthcoming American fantasy action-adventure comedy film co-written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game. The story takes place in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, which was designed by Ed Greenwood.

The film bears little resemblance to the trilogy that was produced between 2000 and 2012. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant star in the film.

The picture went through several stages of development, first with Warner Bros. Pictures when they defeated Universal Pictures in a lawsuit, then shifting to Paramount Pictures, with different writers and directors.

The ultimate writers/directors were Goldstein and Daley, who included aspects from the first attempt by director Chris McKay and screenwriter Michael Gilio. Filming began in Iceland and Northern Ireland in April 2021, with Barry Peterson serving as director of photography.

Dan Lebental serves as editor in post-production, and Lorne Balfe composed the score. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to be released theatrically in the United States by Paramount Pictures on March 3, 2023.

What We Know About the Release Date

As per MovieWeb, Dungeons & Dragons had its first release date of July 23, 2021, in December 2017. The release date was later pushed out to November 19, 2021, with Mission: Impossible 7 taking the July slot.dungeons and dragons honor among thieves

COVID-related concerns pushed the deadline back until May 27, 2022. Finally, in April 2021, the release date was pushed out to March 3, 2023.

Development of Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves

Warner Bros. Pictures and Courtney Solomon’s Sweetpea Entertainment announced a Dungeons & Dragons film on May 7, 2013, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing the script and Roy Lee, Alan Zeman, and Solomon producing.

Hasbro filed a complaint two days later, claiming that they were co-producing a Dungeons & Dragons picture at Universal Pictures with Chris Morgan writing and directing.

The Warner Bros. film was set for pre-production alongside Hasbro on August 3, 2015, after U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee pushed Sweetpea Entertainment and Hasbro to settle the rights lawsuit. Rob Letterman was in talks to direct Johnson-script McGoldrick’s on March 31, 2016, and his involvement was confirmed on May 13, 2016.

In April 2017, actor Joe Manganiello, a Dungeons & Dragons lover, claimed that he had written a script for the project with John Cassel and was “talking to all the appropriate folks” to make it happen. After finishing the script, Manganiello collaborated with Brad Peyton and Dwayne Johnson, who were both in talks to create the picture.

After different degrees of progress, Hasbro moved the picture to Paramount Pictures in December 2017 and set a July 23, 2021 release date In February 2018, Paramount was in talks with Chris McKay and Michael Gilio, respectively, to direct and write the picture.

Gilio completed the first draught in March 2019, and studio execs indicated excitement for the film. As the casting process began, the studio began negotiating with potential performers. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley were in talks to direct on July 30, 2019.

The filmmaking couple stated in January 2020 that they had co-written a fresh draught of the script.  Daley, Goldstein, and Gilio ultimately obtained screenwriting credit, while McKay and Gilio received narrative credit.

Yes, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves now has an official trailer. Fans finally got to see Pine, Grant, Page, and Rodriguez heading out on a mysterious adventure in the trailer. The trailer is set to “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin, which is a song about love.

What We Know About the Cast

Chris Pine will be in charge of the cast. Fans of geek culture already know him from his roles in the Star Trek and Wonder Woman movie series. We know he will be in the movie, but we don’t know what role Chris Pine will play or how he will fit into the main story. After Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and Rege-Jean Page were added, but their roles are still unknown.

Hugh Grant will play the main bad guy in the movie, but we don’t know much else about him yet. Chloe Coleman, Sophia Lillis, and Daisy Head will be the last three people in the cast.
