Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Difficult for Mobs is a series of Japanese light novels authored by Yomu Mishima and illustrated by Monda. It was originally self-published by the author as a web novel on the Shsetsuka ni Nar platform between October 1, 2017, and October 15, 2019, with a total of seven sections and 176 chapters.
On May 30, 2018, Micro Magazine began publishing it as a light novel under their GC Novels label. Fujimi Shobo began serializing the manga version of the series by Jun Shiosato on October 5, 2018, under the imprint Dragon Comics Age. Seven Seas Entertainment distributes the English versions of both the light novel and the manga adaptation. A television version of the manga by ENGI aired from April to June of 2022.
The Plot of Trapped in a Dating Sim
The story begins when office worker Leon Fou Bartfort dies and is resurrected in an Otome video game that his sister forced him to play. Specifically, he has been resurrected in the Holfort Kingdom of the Otome video game universe, where ladies reign supreme, making life particularly difficult for’mobs’, or minor characters like himself.
The plot centers around Leon upsetting his world by leveraging his knowledge of the game from a previous life, discovering the cheat item Luxion, and enrolling at Holtfort Academy. He attempts to live a normal life, but his actions cause him to become entangled in many conspiracies, all while interacting with the nobles and other characters of the otome game.
Trapped in a Dating Simulator Second Season Renewal Status
As previously stated, Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Difficult for Mobs has not been officially renewed for a second season. However, what are the odds that the anime will return for another adventure?
The possibility of a second season of Trapped in a Dating Sim has been significantly increased by the availability of content from Yomu Mishim’s original light novel, which Studio ENGI can use. According to Anime Geek, episode 12 will conclude with the completion of the second light novel volume, which was released in Japan in October 2018.
The good news for fans is that, as of June 19th, a total of ten complete light book volumes have been published domestically, which means there is possibly enough source material for five anime seasons.
The series has also seen significant success in the Spring anime lineup, receiving a 7.1/10 rating on IMDB, a 7.33/10 rating on MyAnimeList, and a spot in the AniTrenz Top Anime for the last 14 consecutive weeks, although it could only reach 12th position.
The only problem is that the anime has not substantially increased sales of the light novel and manga adaptations. Coupled with the opinion that the first four light novel volumes are the greatest in the series, it remains to be seen whether the domestic popularity in Japan would justify the costs associated with a second anime season.
A manga adaptation by Jun Shiosato started coming out in parts on October 5, 2018. It is published by Fujimi Shobo under the imprint Dragon Comics Age. On January 8, 2022, the manga moved from the Dra Dra Sharp website for online manga to the Monthly Dragon Age magazine.
The first volume of the manga adaptation came out in July 2021. It was licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment on December 4, 2020. It has been put together in eight volumes called tankbon. Otome Game Ychien wa Mob ni Kibishii Ychien Desu, a spin-off manga drawn by Noko mi, started running in Monthly Dragon Age on June 6, 2022.
