Houseki No Kuni, commonly known as Land of the Lustrous, is a well-liked action-fantasy anime series that was launched in the fall of 2017 to widespread acclaim. This series, which is globally popular with its anime adaptation, is also immensely popular with its manga.
The anime is based on Haruko Ichikawa’s manga of the same name, which she wrote and illustrated. The series was produced by the same studio as Beastars, which is well-known for its 3D CG animations: Orange animation studio. The return of Beastars for its second season on January 7, 2021, thrilled its followers. Now, fans of “Land of the Lustrous” eagerly await the second season.
The first season of the anime licenced by Sentai Filmworks initially aired from October 7, 2017 to December 23, 2017 on local networks AT-X, Tokyo MX, BS11, and MBS. With its airing on Amazon Prime Video, the anime garnered worldwide popularity. So far, what do we know about the series and its second season?
Date of Land of the Lustrous Season 2’s Release
Buddhism affected Land of the Lustrous significantly. This is demonstrated through the characters, particularly Master Vajra. He always wears the traditional Japanese Buddhist monk’s robe. In addition, his real name is Ksitigarbha, making him one of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas’ namesake. And In Japan, Ksitigarbha is revered as the guardian of children, who are represented here as diamonds.
In response to Vajra, the Selenians likewise experienced religious inspiration. The manner in which they emerge in the sky, performing their duties, is reminiscent of the Japanese raig: after death, Buddha and several musicians would appear on a cloud. After a battle, when the main moonkin of a job has been slashed in two, its interior reveals a pattern similar of the lotus, a Buddhist emblem of purity.
The Selenians may have been inspired by the Apsaras, who are cloud-traveling dancers and musicians in Japanese folklore and Hinduism. The inspiration for the manga came from his high school study of sutras.
The author chose phosphophyllite as the main character because, to her, this gemstone has the ideal attributes for a protagonist: it is precious and incredibly beautiful, but delicate and unsuitable for jewellery.
Since December 2012, Kodansha has begun publishing the manga in the monthly magazine Monthly Afternoon. In Japan, eleven volumes have been published as of December 2020, and several chapters are still to be combined into tankbon volumes. Pseudomorph of Love, an artbook published exclusively in Japan in 2017, is also included.
Since October 7, 2017, Orange studio’s anime adaptation has aired on AT-X, MBS, and TV Tokyo in Japan. In order to honour the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first DVDs and Blu-rays, a series-specific exhibition was held in Tokyo’s Yrakuch neighbourhood from January to February 2018.
It concentrates solely on the adaptation, revealing components of the storyline, character design, and sets, as well as 3D animation material, all with production notes.
As can be seen, Land of the Lustrous has a promising future, mostly because there is a great deal of interest and more material to adapt. We’ll have to observe the manga’s continued success before we can make any accurate predictions about the series’ possible continuation. According to techradar247.com it is estimated that , the earliest we could perhaps see a second season is late 2023, although we would need confirmation during 2022 or 2023.

Season 2 Storyline of Land of the Lustrous
We don’t know where the second season of Land of the Lustrous will lead us yet because we don’t know how many chapters of the manga the season will adapt. Specifically, due to a general lack of knowledge, we have no idea how far the second season might go, if it even exists. The following is a synopsis of the show’s plot.
The story takes place in the far future, when humanity has vanished owing to the impact of six meteors on Earth. Instead, a new form of life has emerged: humanoid-looking diamonds. They are 28 eternal beings who live under Master Vajra’s protection. Despite their master’s presence, the jewels are subjected to practically daily attacks from Selenians, Moon dwellers who want to turn them into trinkets and ornaments.
As a result, the diamonds are compelled to form an organisation in which each is assigned a certain duty, such as combatant, doctor, crafter, tailor, and so on. They normally work in groups of two. Phosphophyllite, the youngest jewel, is the primary character. He is regarded as weak because to his low hardness and clumsiness, yet he desires to become a warrior above all else in order to be valuable to the community.
Master Vajra objects and gives him the duty of writing a natural history. Despite his reservations, he undertakes this work, and after being attacked unexpectedly one night, he encounters Cinnabar, a lonely and inadvertently dangerous jewel who is in charge of the midnight rounds alone. Phos, moved by her situation, vows to find her a more productive and enjoyable role.
