What Was the Plot of Supernova?
Sam and Tusker, who have been in a relationship for 20 years and who are also amateur astronomers, travel across England in a campervan to the Lake District in order to see some of their favourite places and to reunite with friends and family.
Tusker has been identified as having early onset dementia, and their relationship is suffering as a result of his sickness.
He is currently working on a novel, but he is having trouble with it and won’t show Sam. Sam, a pianist and composer, is getting ready for what he claims would be his last piano recital.
The rest of their relatives and friends subsequently assemble for a celebration in their honour at Sam’s sister’s home when the duo arrive.
Sam learns from one of their pals that Tusker has been having trouble writing during a subsequent chat. Sam enters their camper van and finds that Tusker’s writing has gotten worse with time in his journal.
Additionally, he finds that Tusker has a bottle of pentobarbital and has recorded a farewell audio clip in which he declares his intention to commit suicide. Sam remains silent.
The couple goes to a rented cabin in the woods. Sam plays the tape to Tusker and confronts him with his discoveries, letting him know that Tusker intends to commit suicide before his dementia gets too bad.
Sam pleads with him vehemently and beseechingly against this notion, but to no avail. The next day, they reconcile and have a romantic evening together. Sam informs Tusker that he supports his choice and that he wants to be at his side when it takes place the following morning as he plays the piano.
In the climactic climax, Sam makes an appearance on stage while performing the gorgeous piano song that Tusker so dearly adored.
