After No Time To Die, the search for the next James Bond will begin in the course of 2022, and there are many names that have been hypothesized to fill the role abandoned by Daniel Craig. However, it emerged that Tom Holland has recently attempted to join the franchise, offering Sony a prequel film about James Bond. However, his idea didn’t work out.
The Spider-Man actor spoke about this story to Total Film magazine during the promotion of his next film, Uncharted. Tom Holland revealed that he said at the studio about a James Bond origin movie in which the world’s most famous spy would be a young novice in the world of espionage.
“I had a meeting at the time of Spider-Man: Far From Home with Sony to present this idea of a young film about James Bond that came to my mind. It was the James Bond origin story. It didn’t really make sense. It did not work. It was a kid’s dream, and I don’t think the Bond franchise team was particularly interested.”
However, this failure of Tom Holland was not a fiasco. In fact, according to the actor, his interest in creating an origin story for a popular character is part of what prompted Sony to adapt the Uncharted video game series.
As Tom Holland explained, “The idea of a young Bond movie brought out this idea, that you could tell the Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than a sequel to the games. And this has opened a window.”
Tom Holland plays Nathan Drake in the film, alongside Mark Wahlberg, Victor “Sully” Sullivan in Uncharted, directed by Ruben Fleischer. The cast also includes Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. Its release is scheduled for February 17.
This film is the first of the year for Sony and coincides with a reunion with Tom Holland following the box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As for the James Bond franchise, no one knows what will happen to 007 now that Daniel Craig has left the role. Predictions about who will replace the actor include Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, and Bridgertons beloved performer, Rege-Jean Page. The rumors also spoke of Tom Hardy, who is already busy with Venom 3.
