“Walter is an eccentric but amusing recluse who is in high demand for his ability to find anything. He is suspicious of everything.

After surviving a roadside bomb explosion, he suffered brain damage, which explains his constant paranoia and compulsion to find things—and for asking offensive, seemingly irrelevant questions to get to the truth.

The Finder Season 2

The episode’s production began in early 2011. Creator Hart Hanson joked on Twitter about the notes he received from the network, saying, “I received notes from the studio about the Bones spin-off idea. They want things to improve. Taskmasters who are unreasonable. Dreamers with impossible goals. Neo-platonists.”

The main characters of Bones travel to Key West, Florida, where The Finder is said to take place, in the episode. Geoff Stults was cast as the main character, with Michael Clarke Duncan and Saffron Burrows (as a bartender and pilot Ike Latulippe) in supporting roles. Season 6 Episode 19 introduced the three characters.

On May 10, 2011, The Finder was renewed for the 2011–12 season with a 13-episode order. The series premiered in midseason 2012, airing on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET when Bones is on hiatus. Saffron Burrows did not appear in the series after the backdoor pilot episode because the network decided to recast the role.

As the two female leads, Mercedes Masöhn and Maddie Hasson joined the cast. Masohn plays Deputy U.S. Marshal Isabel Zambada, and Hasson plays Willa, a juvenile delinquent who assists with their investigations.
