There are no overarching plots or characters in this show; each season stands on its own. This is one of the series’ most distinctive features. There’s nothing left to say about Season 2, therefore it’s time to move on.

The next season will have an entirely new storyline and a cast of characters that the audience has never met before. When it comes to predicting the show’s future, a glance back at previous seasons is a waste of time here.

While the plots and characters may be distinct, what about the actors? Will any of the show’s original cast members return for the third season? The answer would be no if previous seasons offer any clue.

Lucy Liu, Jack Davenport, Ginnifer Goodwin, Sam Jaeger, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Alexandra Daddario, and Reid Scott all appeared in Season 1 of the show’s first season. Veronica Falcón and B.K. Cannon starred in Season 2, as did Allison Tolman and Lana Parrilla.

There was no further continuity except for Davenport’s role as The Narrator in Season 2, therefore it’s unlikely that any of the prior actors will return for Season 3. However, you never know, right?

While you wait, you may watch Why Women Kill seasons 1 and 2 on Paramount+.

What Happened in the First Season of Why Women Kill?

Season one of Why Women Kill merged historical events with contemporary homicides to tell three stories of infidelity in the 1960s, 1980s, and 2019 in alternating time frames.

Two housewives (Ginnifer Goodwin and Lucy Liu) were joined by an upper-class socialite (Taylor Kitsch) and an openly married lawyer (Lucy Liu) who all shared a Pasadena home at various periods in their lives (Kirby Howell-Baptiste, The Good Place).

Beth Ann “is a character I’m enamored with,” Goodwin said in a Parade interview in 2019. “Beth Ann is a character I’m infatuated with.” Because of this book, I feel like I’ve been stretched to the limit of what I’ve ever been able to achieve professionally and intellectually.

What Happened in the Second Season of Why Women Kill?

Season 2 included a whole new cast and format, causing a stir in the industry. It was set in 1949 and starred Allison Tolman’s character Alma (from Fargo), a plump Los Angeles housewife who aspires to join the prestigious garden club of actor Robert Parrilla’s character. Alma also learns, in keeping with the show’s premise, that her husband is hiding something unexpected from her.

For Tolman, the one-season tenure on the program provided a sense of security because she knew where her character would begin and end, CBS Los Angeles said in an interview with the actress earlier this year. What struck me was how she transitioned from being a woman who felt powerless and unsure of herself to a woman who had a little bit of agency and control over her own destiny.”
