Ranking of Kings Season 2 Release Date: Renewed or Cancelled?

The final episode of the Ranking of Kings (also known as the Ousama Rankings) was released earlier this month, and viewers are already asking when the show will return for a new season.

Ranking of Kings soon became one of the most popular seasonal anime on Crunchyroll and Funimation, despite its unusual animation style. So it is a foregone conclusion that the programme will return for a second season; but, when will it return? That is the question on the minds of supporters.

As you may know, the success of the series and the source material are the two most crucial criteria in a sequel announcement. When it comes to series popularity, Ranking of Kings hits all the criteria.

The series has an 8.79/10 rating on MyAnimeList and a 4.6/5 rating on Crunchyroll. Ranking of Kings was nominated in six categories at the previous Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and Boji was named Best Boy of the Year.

What Will Happen in the Second Season of Ranking of Kings?

Season one of Ranking of Kings concluded with the resolution of the majority of its significant narrative strands. King Daida regained control of his body, Bojji and the great four defeated Ouken and Miranjo, and King Bosse died (for sure this time) — floating away in a very elegant manner.

And, in case you missed it, Daida proposed to Miranjo. If there is a season 2, it’s unclear where the tale will go now that the stakes have been raised. However, there may be a few hints in the last seconds of the show’s finale.

Boji abdicates the kingdom and chooses to embark on adventures with Kage (who can blame him? ), and Desha is proclaimed the new number one ranked King. Desha, like his brother, is dedicated to finding a method to save his sibling Ouken (who was just squashed into a ball and yeeted into a lake, FYI).

Those two events surely plant the seeds for additional stories, and we can’t wait to learn more – especially regarding the mystery organisation behind the ‘rankings.’ Outside of speculation, there isn’t much to go on, although creator Ssuke Tka stated in a December interview with Anime News Network.

“Because I have a soft heart, I enjoy stories with happy endings. If I can, I’d like to make everyone happy. But I can’t help the evil folks. That’s all there is to it.”We’re not sure if Ranking of Kings has any genuinely ‘evil’ characters, so who knows what this means.

Expected Cast: Who’s in It?

If the programme returns for a second season, we may expect to see all of the friends Bojji made on his first expedition. With that in mind, below are the Japanese and English voice actors for all of the main characters in Ranking of Kings:

  • Minami Hinata (Japanese) / Emily Fajardo, Prince Bojji (English)
  • SungWon Cho – Ayumu Murase (Japanese) / Kage (English)
  • Rina Sat (Japanese) / Luci Christian Queen Hilling (English)
  • Yûki Kaji (Japanese) / Daida / Justin Briner (English)
  • Brianna Roberts / Miranjo – Maaya Sakamoto (Japanese) (English)
  • Takuya Eguchi (Japanese) / Domas / A. J. Locascio (English)
  • Hinata Tadokoro (Japanese) / Brent Mukai Dorshe (English)

  • Kenta Miyake (Japanese) / Cris George, King Bosse (English)

Ranking of Kings Season 2 Premiere Date(Expected)

When can we anticipate everyone’s favourite boy-king to return, assuming we get a second season? The simplest approach to estimate is to consider how long it took us to get the first batch of episodes.

The first season of Ranking of Kings featured the first 12 volumes of the source manga (156 chapters) – currently designated ‘Part 1’. The first of these volumes was released in February 2019, despite the fact that author Ssuke Tka began writing the series in 2017, and the twelfth was released in December.

This suggests that Tka spent at least three years writing adequate content for the present adaptation. Volume #13, the first volume of Part 2, will be released soon, keeping with the one-volume-every-four-months schedule.

For those keeping track, the current chapter count for Ranking of Kings is 191. So it appears that fans will have to wait around two and a half years until Bojji has had enough experience to warrant a second season of the anime.

If we’re being optimistic and season two is greenlit, we may expect to see it sometime in late 2024. If WIT Studios decides to produce a 12-episode second season instead, this might happen sooner.

Is Ranking of Kings Renewed for a Second Season?

There is currently no word on a Season 2 of Ranking of Kings, however, the possibilities of another season are rather strong. Though the season one finale tied up most loose ends, we still have a lot of questions, including (but not limited to) the destiny of the immortal Auken.

The route ahead of the new King Daida, and, of course, how Bojji and Kage will construct a new kingdom. Furthermore, many fans are curious about the whole past of numerous characters, including Desha, Domas, and Queen Hiling.

Fortunately for fans, the manga authored by Sosuke Toka is allegedly still underway, which means there is a lot more plot to come. We can safely expect that all of our queries will be answered soon.

The manga’s continuation also means we’ll have to wait a long time for a new season—possibly late 2023 or 2024—but we’re confident it’ll be worth the wait!
