Moon Knight Season 2: Release Date | Is Moon Knight Going to Return?

Season 2 of Moon Knight appears to be a foregone conclusion. That Moon Knight conclusion had to have hinted at more for Marc and Steven, didn’t it? You’d think so, but the weight of Oscar Isaac’s superhero is still up in the air. Moon Knight’s second season has yet to be announced by Marvel.

Could the studio be waiting to see how the first season is received? Or will the vigilante emerge in another series – or even a film – before the next season? With that in mind, we should warn you that there will be spoilers for the first season of Moon Knight ahead – it’s difficult to speak about more episodes when you can’t get into specifics about the first six.

Though director Mohamed Diab and performers Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy have all commented about Moon Knight season 2, the spotlight will be on statements from Isaac. Here’s what we know thus far.

Moon Knight Season 2 Cast Rumours

If and when Moon Knight season 2 is released, Oscar Isaac will reprise his roles as Marc Spector, Moon Knight, Steven Grant, Mr Knight, and Jake Lockley (the cabbie introduced in the finale). It would be ridiculous to recast him and make an already intricate figure even more complicated.

May Calamawy is also expected to reprise her role as Layla El-Faouly, whose new identity as the Scarlet Scarab has yet to be identified or made public. Karim El Hakim and F. Murray Abraham, who voiced Khonshu, as well as Antonia Salib, who played the hippo goddess Taweret.

There’s a chance Ethan Hawke will reprise his role as Arthur Harrow, but it all hinges on if Moon Knight producers want to bring the character back from the grave or if he died at all.

Why May Moon Knight Season 2 Happen?

We walked into Moon Knight expecting it to be a one-and-done experience. That’s because Marvel and Disney would refer to it as a “limited series,” which is how shows like WandaVision are referred to (and there will be no WandaVision season 2).

This meant that any signals of Moon Knight season 2 — even someone stating it’s not-not happening — may be seen as a clue that it’s possible.

For example, MCU president Kevin Feige told IGN in August 2021 about Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms Marvel: “Some of the shows that I mentioned that we’re about to start filming, we’re keeping in mind a structure that would lead into a season two and a season three in a more direct way, than, say, a show like WandaVision, which clearly goes into a feature, but it is new.”

For example, when the Moon Knight finale appeared on Wednesday (May 4), fan moods shifted when Marvel referred to Moon Knight episode 6 as “the epic series conclusion” — and then altered it to “season finale,” as shown in this tweet, which we’ve screenshotted below in case it disappears.

This decision suggests that Moon Knight’s run on Disney Plus may not be over, but it may also jeopardise its prospects at award ceremonies where it was filed as a limited series.

Furthermore, a Deadline interview with Moon Knight’s episodic director and executive producer Mohamed Diab provided fans with even more reasons to be optimistic. “We don’t know whether there’s a second season.

“Diab is quoted as saying, “Marvel doesn’t go with a conventional approach, so even if they like the character and want to prolong the universe, it could be season 2, it could be a standalone film, or he may join another superhero’s trip.”

Moon Knight Season 2

Ethan Hawke, the man behind Moon Knight’s nasty antagonist, has also given us some good news. Hawke said to IGN that he would like to reprise his role as Arthur Harrow in either Moon Knight season 2 or another Marvel programme or movie

“The good news is that it could be either. It lives and breathes on its own, as a limited series — and if people are interested and intrigued by it, it might be the birth tale of something bigger.”

Moon Knight Season 2 Release Date Rumours

The road to Moon Knight season 2 might belong, but not because of the time it takes to develop it – Marvel just has a lot of projects in the works at the moment.

Mohamed Diab was tapped to the helm in October 2020, and he has since collaborated on the series’ idea with writer/producer Sarah Goher.

We don’t sure how long it took to write the season, but production took six months. That implies Moon Knight season 2 will premiere in 2023 at the earliest. If at all possible.

Is Moon Knight Getting a Second Season?

Aside from the apparent Twitter mishap, Marvel has made no formal announcement on Moon Knight’s return for season 2.

In interviews, both Isaac and Hawke have referred to Moon Knight as a “limited series,” making the show more akin to WandaVision than Loki (which was given a second season before the first ended).

Director Mohamed Diab, on the other hand, is certain that Moon Knight will return—and not only on the big screen. Diab detailed his rationale in an interview with SFX.

Plot

Moon Knight is purposefully strange and experimental, at least for Marvel, making it more difficult to predict what will happen next. However, considering that Jake Lockley – the third significant Moon Knight personality – finally makes his appearance in the post-credits sequence, we expect him to continue to play an important part in the future.

Is he, however, a friend or adversary to the other alters? Jake is clearly someone you don’t want to mess with, based on his final “shot” in season one. Brief hints at iconic comic book villains like Bushman may also pay off in the future, provided Moon Knight returns for a second season.

Moon Knight Season 2

Given the show’s lacklustre response, as well as its present position as a limited series, we wouldn’t be shocked if Moon Knight – and maybe Layla as Taweret’s superheroic new avatar – just appears in other MCU tales from now on. That may be really intriguing.

Because, like Batman, Moon Knight can be shaped into a variety of genres depending on the writer. So, although we can readily imagine the Fist of Khonshu fighting with street-level heroes like Daredevil, we can equally imagine him fighting alongside – or against – the Avengers, depending on his mood.

Following the conclusion, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab indicated that he is still unsure about the show’s future direction. I have no idea what is going to happen… The point is, I am confident that Moon Knight will remain.

Is it going to be made into a film? Is it going to be a television show? Is it just going to be accompanying another character on their next adventure? I’m not sure. I wish I could be a part of that narrative. One day, that globe will be expanded.”

Conclusion

Moon Knight Season 2 looks to be a predetermined conclusion. That Moon Knight ending had to have hinted at something bigger for Marc and Steven, didn’t it? That means the second season of Moon Knight will air in 2023 at the earliest. Whenever possible.
