Glory Johnson-Griner and Brittney Griner, both WNBA players, reportedly divorced after less than a month of marriage. Griner is reportedly in the midst of getting divorced, per TMZ. Last August, Griner and Johnson-Griner got engaged.

Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson’s Relationship

The teacher, who holds an Olympic gold medal, and Brittney, one of the greatest college basketball players in history, first met while they were both freshmen at Baylor University in Texas. However, they didn’t start dating until after the athlete divorced her first husband, Glory Johnson, and they reconnected.

When the basketball star was arrested in Russia on drug allegations in 2022, the couple made international headlines. During the WNBA offseason, Brittney was in the nation competing for the EuroLeague team UMMC Ekaterinburg.

In May 2022, the U.S. State Department claimed that Russia had “wrongfully imprisoned” the Texas native. In the initial June 5 paperwork, Griner highlighted “fraudulent assertions” made by Johnson and coercion to be married “under duress.”

Just 28 days after the same-sex couple’s wedding, Brittney Griner filed paperwork to dissolve her marriage to Glory Johnson.

In a move to amend the initial petition for annulment that Griner and her attorney submitted on July 13, Griner provided important information about her intention to dissolve the marriage.

On July 23, Griner withheld some information from the initial petition in order to preserve the privacy of the pair.

According to the revised paperwork, Johnson texted her ex-boyfriend while they were still together. Griner “just discovered” Johnson’s “sexual involvement with a male” when the two were dating, according to the updated paperwork.

 

Johnson said she is expecting twins after in-vitro conception using donor sperm; Griner claims she was coerced into getting married and agreeing to establish a family with Johnson; Griner has no biological connection to the unborn children.

Johnson’s request for Griner to provide $20,000 per month in spousal support in addition to a $10,000 advance for legal costs is described in a motion that was filed on June 29.

Griner’s marriage petition, which indicated neither party was entitled to spousal support, and Johnson’s counter-petition will be the subject of an evidentiary hearing on August 17 in Phoenix.

Following their arrests, which were related to an altercation that occurred in their Arizona home on April 22, the WNBA suspended both players for seven games.

Six days later, Griner, who has already completed her suspension and participated in nine league games, entered a domestic violence diversion programme after entering a guilty plea to misdemeanour disorderly conduct.
