Death of Princess Diana

After a 10-day vacation on the French Riviera, Diana and her reported boyfriend, Egyptian billionaire Emad “Dodi” Fayed, returned to Paris on August 30, 1997. They dined in the Ritz Hotel’s private salon in Paris. Fayed’s father, Mohammed Al-Fayed, owned both the hotel and the Harrods department store in London at the time.

A few minutes after midnight on Sunday, Diana and Fayed left the hotel and entered the waiting Mercedes-Benz, most likely en route to Fayed’s private Parisian mansion.

Henri Paul allegedly approached the entrance of a road tunnel at the Pont de l’Alma in Paris at roughly 70 mph, despite the declared speed limit of 30 mph. Paul, according to sources, lost control of his vehicle and slammed with a highway pillar.

Paul and Fayed were pronounced dead at the spot, while Diana was transported to the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital while she was still alive. According to initial accounts, Diana suffered from a concussion, a broken arm, and a cut thigh.

Nevertheless, the princess had also sustained severe chest damage. Doctors attempted unsuccessfully for two hours to get Diana’s heart pumping normally again. She did not recover consciousness. At 4:53 on the morning of August 31, 1997, Diana lost away from intestinal haemorrhage.

Diana’s serious boyfriend, the heart surgeon Hasnat Khan, subsequently told a 2008 inquiry into the Princess’s death that she broke their two-year romance when she went on vacation with Mohamed Al Fayed and his family.
