James Alan Hetfield, who was born on August 3, 1963, is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, co-founder, and principal songwriter for the heavy metal band Metallica. Early Years of James Hetfield
Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963, in Downey, California, to light opera singer Cynthia Bassett and truck driver Virgil Lee Hetfield. His ancestry is English, German, Irish, and Scottish. He has two elder half-brothers and one younger half-sister from his mother’s first marriage.
Hetfield’s parents split in 1976 when he was 13 years old. In accordance with their beliefs, they firmly disapproved of medicine or any other medical therapy, and they remained faithful to their faith even while Cynthia succumbed to cancer.
