Timeline of Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton’s Relationship
On-set fireworks! Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer took their relationship to the next level while playing Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler’s love story.
According to people.com When Netflix debuted in 2016, viewers became invested in Nancy and Jonathan’s chemistry. Nancy was dating Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) at the time, but the disappearance of her friend Barb inspired her to work with Jonathan. Nancy and Jonathan remained friends until season 2, when they decided to start dating.
Offscreen, Heaton and Dyer preferred to keep their romance under wraps. When they were spotted together at the Los Angeles International Airport after the Golden Globes in 2017, they sparked dating rumours. They were seen holding hands in Paris and kissing in London later that year.
Dyer hinted at her close relationship with Heaton during an interview with a source. “I guess he’s okay,” she joked in January 2018. “He doesn’t interfere with our scenes too much!” No, he’s fantastic. He, like the rest of the cast, is gifted. They’re all fantastic people to work with.”
Heaton, for his part, praised Jonathan and Nancy’s blossoming love after season 2. “They’ve both experienced this shared trauma.” They’ve both been through this together, and I think it brings people closer,” the musician, who has a son named Archie with his ex Akiko Matsuura, told Us in March 2018.
“I think what was cool about Jonathan and Nancy, especially in season 1, was that they brought out qualities in each other that might not have been there without the other.” Dyer also felt it was important for the show to explore Nancy’s independence outside of her romance with Jonathan, specifically through the mysteries in Hawkins, Indiana.
“I believe she is a large fish in a small pond.” I believe Hawkins has something she needs to figure out because they don’t believe they’ve gotten to the bottom of it. That’s something I’d like to see more of.
“I’d love to see her land that big score,” she explained. “At the same time, I don’t believe she feels fully validated.” I don’t think it’s over; I believe there’s still more there that feels wrong and off, and I’m not sure if you’ll ever be able to fix it.”
