In the world of superheroes, The Flash has had a frustratingly delayed route to release. First approved in 2004, but not scheduled for release until 2023, Superman: The First Avenger’s first solo outing in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) hopes to offer the Marvel competitor another box office success.
Barry Allen, the most well-known incarnation of The Flash from the comic books, stars in the film adaptation based on the long-running title character.
The Flash from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League are the ones to remember here, despite the fact that Barry Allen did make a cameo appearance in an Arrowverse TV episode called “Crisis On Infinite Earths,” as there is a lot of superheroic background noise these days.
The Cast of “The Flash”
Ezra Miller will play Barry Allen / The Flash, as previously reported. To make up for Billy Crudup’s scheduling issues, Ron Livingston has been cast in the character of Barry’s father Henry. He’ll be joined by Pan’s Labyrinth actress Maribel Verdi as his mother Nora.
Iris West’s love interest, Kiersey Clemons(Instagram), will be returning. Justice League director Kiefer Sutherland Clemons shot portions that were eliminated from the original version but returned in the controversial Snyder Cut.
Those in charge of the camera are now better understood. Filmmaker Andy Muschietti, best known for directing both halves of the current big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, will direct from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson(Wikipedia) (Bumblebee).
In August 2020, it was revealed that several additional well-known actors would be appearing in the film, including past Batmans Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Muschietti described Affleck’s contribution as “a very important component of the emotional impact.” Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will offer an emotional dimension that we haven’t seen before,” he says.
“It was a really lovely way to explore it as the last experience had been painful,” Affleck stated in an interview with Variety.
And Muschietti says that Keaton is reprising his role as Batman from Tim Burton’s 1989 film, as well as from the 1992 sequel and that the role is one of many “alternate-dimension heroes” that will appear, as we’ve seen before. Keaton told Collider that he’d want to reprise the role.
In a strange and ironic way, it was simple. Somewhat tense, to say the least. Just a whirlwind of thoughts.
For those who haven’t seen it, the initial shot of Batman’s introduction is so amazing that when we started discussing a few shots and the perspectives, I went ‘whoa, this is big. “Wow, this is really cool.”
I don’t even mean it for me. Just the visuals are fantastic. As well as evoking elements of Tim Burton’s style.”
Sasha Calle, who starred in The Young and the Restless and will now play the role of Supergirl in the DC Extended Universe, will join the cast of The Flash.
What’s the Story Behind the Flash?
As previously stated, the film will follow the events of the Flashpoint comic, which sees the formation of an alternate universe owing to the Flash’s attempt to travel back in time to save his mother.
Miller has stated that “our cherished DC universe will inevitably be broken apart to an unending, headache-inducing fabric of multiversity,” which sounds, well, intriguing.
With director Andy Muschietti declaring that his picture is, “a bit of a hinge in the sense that it provides a story which indicates a unified world, where all the cinematic incarnations we’ve seen before are valid,” we now know more about the multiverse that will be explored in the film.
Because it says that everything you’ve seen and everything you’ll see exists in the same unified multiverse, it is inclusive. “
It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their personalities are closer related than we think, says director Luciano Muschietti to Vanity Fair magazine.”
That’s one of the movie’s emotional containers, because they both lost their mothers to murder,” There comes the Affleck Batman to save the day! Being able to work with someone who has worked on both sides of the camera is a huge plus for me. As far as I’m concerned, he gets it.”
Filming took place in a variety of locations, but the Gotham City sequences in Glasgow and Edinburgh caught our attention the most.
For now, we don’t know much about the plot, but we can expect a lot of running in this one!
What’s the Premise?
Two years ago, Andy Muschetti, the film’s director, indicated that the film’s plot would be based on the Flashpoint comic book series (which relaunched the DC Comics universe back in 2011). It’s also expected to expose fans to the DC cosmos and respect the cinematic timelines of previous DC films.
Cyborg (not Superman), not Batman, is the world’s hero in the Flashpoint storyline, which takes place in an alternate universe. Only Barry Allen appears to be aware of the discrepancies between his timeline and this parallel reality.
When it comes to the DCEU, it’s a little confusing because Flashpoint has already been covered in the third season of The CW The Flash, had its own animated feature version and doesn’t fit total integration into the DCEU-based on what we know (Batman being the exception).
In late 2021, a teaser will be issued that provides further information.
Shots of Barry outside his home and approaching what appears to be his mother in the kitchen suggest that the Flashpoint narrative of Barry preventing the murder of his mother in the past will be followed, at least initially.
Multiple Bat-people, Bat-men, and Bat-women are created as a result of the time shift or probable parallel dimension screw-up.
In this film, Batman is also a major player. “A very major element of the emotional impact of the film,” according to director Louis D. Muschietti, has been confirmed for Ben Affleck’s Batman in the teaser, which is strewn with the character’s hallmark images. With his bloodied cowl and striking silhouette, he’s all over the place.
We already know that the Bruce Wayne personas of Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will appear in the film, but their exact roles are still up in the air.
Because Ben Affleck’s Batman was still a billionaire at the end of Justice League, the run-down pile in the teaser is most likely the Wayne Manor from 1989’s Batman.
The Flash’s closing “You in?” line hints that the Dark Knight will be loyal to the numerous Flashes, while Keaton’s voice-over mentions traveling to “any timeline, any universe”.
The Release Date for the Flash
The Flash’s current cinema expected release date is Friday, June 23, 2023, said to internal sources. Due to the film’s previous delays, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this time it’s true.
There have been numerous delays due to the pandemic and creative differences (it’s been attached to no less than eight directors over the years), but a release date of next summer appears to be a lock.
The film was originally scheduled for release on March 18, 2018, but multiple 2022 release dates have been proposed.
HBO Max in the United States will show the picture 45 days after its release in the theatres.
Waiting for confirmation of a streaming platform, Sky Cinema and NOW look like the most likely options for UK viewers.
