Amazon is making a big move this year. The new blockbuster series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will end on September 2, 2022.
Even though that subtitle gives away a lot, Amazon has been pretty tight-lipped about the show in general. Aside from a few planned drops, they haven’t said much about the series or how it will fill in the gaps of a less well-known time in J.R.R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth.
This is probably because the show is a bit of a risk, even for a streaming service backed by one of the biggest companies ever. Amazon wants to show that it can make big prestige shows and also try to beat HBO’s Game of Thrones in the fantasy genre.
So, it seems like The Rings of Power rollout is done with a lot of thought. Still, the pieces of information are starting to fit together, and they do tell us some things about what the show wants to be. Here is everything we know about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and its story and history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Casting of the Rings of Power
Tolkien: The Fellowship of the Ring stars Joseph Mawle, Robert Aramayo, Morfydd Clark, Benjamin Walker, and Ismael Cruz Cordova in the role of Aragorn. Maxim Baldry plays Ismael Cruz Cordova. Markella Kavenagh plays Markella Kavenagh in the role of Markella Kavenagh.

The Rings of Power: What Is the Plot?
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place at the end of the Third Age of Middle-Earth. The Rings of Power, on the other hand, takes place during the Second Age and is about the rise of Sauron, the Dark Lord who uses the people of Middle-Earth to make plans to create chaos and make the world do what he wants.
The Second Age lasts for thousands of years, which gives The Rings of Power a lot of room to tell stories. Even though the show will probably be about Sauron’s return (after he was weakened by Morgoth’s war against the Elves) and the making of the Rings of Power, this time in Middle-earth is also when the island kingdom Numenor falls.
Not everything on the show will happen in the Second Age. Our first look at the series gave us a hint of how Tolkien’s world of Arda, which is the setting for his epic fantasy books, came to be.
Fellowship of Fans recently let slip that the Balrog will show up at some point in the first season of the Amazon show. The news source says that the monster will show up during the battle shown in the first Rings of Power trailer.
Empire said that the upcoming epic fantasy series will last about 50 hours and cover a huge amount of ground. Rings of Power’s cinematography and storylines have been planned out for many seasons in advance, which is pretty cool.
